Scientific Notation

A method of writing or displaying numbers in terms of a decimal number between 1 and 10 multiplied by a power of 10.

Irrational Number

A number that can NOT be expressed as a ratio of two integers or as a repeating or terminating decimal - Pi or any square root of an imperfect square are considered irrational

Rational Number

A number that can be written as a fraction

Square Root

A number that when multiplied by itself equals a given number

Cube Root

A number that when multiplied three times equals a given number

Radical

A symbol used to signify roots

Exponential Form

An equivalent expression written using a rational exponent

Zero Exponents

Anything raised to the zero power is one

Expanded Form

Breaking a number or an expression apart into an addition or multiplication statement based on the value of the number or expression

Perfect Square

Numbers whose square roots are integers.

Negative Exponents

Raising a number to a negative exponent is the same as raising the number's reciprocal to the equivalent positive exponent

Product Rule for Exponents

When simplifying, add the exponents

Power Rule for Exponents

When simplifying, multiply the exponents

Quotient Rule for Exponents

When simplifying, subtract the exponents
