FCOM Normal Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures- General Information - PRO NOR SOP-01 P
What are two checklist exceptions that are "read and do"?
PRELIMINARY COCKPIT PREPARATION and SECURING THE AIRCRAFT
What is the Pilot Monitoring (PM) responsible for?
The primary task for the pilot monitoring (PM) is to at all times monitor the flight path and airspeed, and to call to the attention of the pilot flying (PF) any deviation from desired target conditions. Other actions, checklists, or duties are subordinate to this requirement, and shall be limited or temporarily suspended as necessary to ensure effective monitoring. In addition: ‐ The PM will also carry out aircraft configuration or system changes called for by the PF. ‐ The PM will handle normal radio communications, and accomplish checklists as required. ‐ The PM will assist the PF by cross-checking PF 's actions and confirming the suitability of the PF's directives.
PFD/FMA CALLS AND FCU PROCEDURES
-All changes on the FMA are to be called by the PF and cross-checked by the PM unless otherwise specified. The color of armed lateral and vertical modes shall be included in the PF call. If any change has not been called, then the PM shall call the change. ‐ All altitude/level targets (refer FCU ALTITUDE SELECTION below). The PM shall respond by reading back the new altitude/level target, and associated color, from the PFD . Any metric-to-feet conversion is to be completed independently by each pilot, set on the FCU, and the target called in feet. ‐ Heading and speed targets (heading targets used to avoid weather need not be called). ‐ Initial VS /FPA targets (minor adjustments from the initial target need not be called). ‐ The effect on the flight path shall be monitored using raw data. ‐ Selection of an autopilot shall be confirmed by the PF calling the AP 1(2) annunciation on the FMA.
When AP is to be engages the PF will verbalize what?
Call out the AP 1(2) annunciation on the FMA
How are changes in the MCDU accomplished?
Changes to the MCDU are directed by the PF and entered by the PM . The PM will enter the change and query the PF with "Confirm?" After verifying, the PF will say "Confirmed" and the PM will execute the change.
What is the correct checklist response when an switch or control is MEL'd or in an abnormal/emergency position?
Crewmembers will respond to the checklist challenge with the actual position of the switch, control, or system
In the event of a takeoff data, flap or runway change what items must be reaccomplished?
FLT INST FLAP SETTING V1 , VR , V2 , FLX TEMP TAKEOFF BRIEFING
When is FLIGHT CONTROLS MONITORING required?
In order to cover the possibility of PF incapacitation causing an unwanted deflection of the sidestick, the PM shall place his hand near his sidestick during critical phases of flight, ready to take priority. PM shall rest his feet lightly on the rudder pedals clear of the brakes at all times below circuit height in case of incapacitation.
What autobrake setting is used for takeoff?
MAX
When is FCU ALTITUDE SELECTION not an altitude restriction?
Normally, all altitude restrictions should be set in the FCU ALT window. Notwithstanding, the following exceptions are permitted: ‐ When managed vertical mode (CLB) is in use during a published departure procedure which has been selected from the database, a higher altitude restriction may be set but not above any cleared altitude/level. ‐ When managed vertical mode (DES) is in use during a published arrival/approach procedure which has been selected from the database, a lower altitude restriction may be set but not below any cleared altitude/level. ‐ When managed vertical mode (FINAL APP ) is in use during a published non-ILS approach which has been selected from the database, the missed approach altitude shall be set at 1 000 ft HAT. ‐ When a selected vertical mode (FPA ) is in use during a published non-ILS approach, the go around altitude shall normally be set at 1 000 ft HAT . If the FAF altitude is above the go around altitude, delay setting the go around altitude until the aircraft is below the go around altitude.
When is A/THR active?
Normally, the A/THR should be active from THR RED ALT down to RETARD in the flare. In conditions of severe turbulence, it may be preferable to use manual thrust. Always monitor speed trend arrow and the FMA for thrust activity.
How does the PM confirm configuration changes?
PM shall check the parameters and choose either a positive or negative response. ‐ A positive response will take the form "<parameter> checked" (e.g. "speed checked") and the PM shall repeat the order after checking the blue number on the ECAM flaps indicator to confirm the correct selection has been made. ‐ A negative response will take the form "check <parameter>" (e.g. "check speed"), and no configuration change shall take place until the correct parameter has been achieved.
Who normally handles all communication with ground crew?
The Captain
What is the PIlot Flying (PF) responsible for?
The PF is the pilot who operates or commands the operation of the flight controls during flight. In addition, the PF is responsible for: ‐ Thrust levers ‐ Flight path and airspeed control ‐ Aircraft configuration (Request configuration change) ‐ Navigation ‐ The PF shall operate the SPEEDBRAKES. Where practical, the PF shall keep his hand on the speedbrake handle whenever speedbrakes are applied. ‐ When on the Final App segment, but not less than 1 000 ft HAT , the PF will have one hand on the thrust levers and one hand on the sidestick. ‐ Below 1 000 ft HAT , the PF will call for any aircraft configuration or Auto Flight changes to the FCU. ‐ The respective crew member is responsible for the onside operation of any duplicated control panel whose function is independent. ‐ The PF shall pace his directives to ensure that the PM does not become overloaded.
Who normally handles all ATC and Company communications and the receipt of ATIS or other weather information?
The PM
What is the appropriate response for "AS RQRD" checklist items?
The crewmember responding will state the current switch position or status of the item (e.g., ON, OFF, STBY, CLOSED)
What is the normal comm setup of VHF1/2/3
VHF1- ATC VHF2-Guard/ATIS/Company VHF3- ACARS
How do the PF and PM transfer duties? In flight and on the ground.
When control of the aircraft is transferred from one pilot to the other, the PF will state "You have Control", and the PM will acknowledge by responding "I have control". On the ground, the Captain will initiate transfer of control of the aircraft by stating "I have control" or "You have control".
After a change on the FCU or MCDU what should both pilots be monitoring?
Whenever a change is made on the FCU or MCDU , both pilots are to monitor the FMA , PFD and ND as appropriate to confirm the expected armed or engaged status.
When shall the PM complete the Landing Checklist?
when the ECAM LDG MEMO is displayed with no blue action lines.
Who makes changes to the MCDU?
‐ PF during COCKPIT PREPARATION, and following transfer of control during DESCENT PREPARATION. ‐ PM during all other phases of flight.
In the event of a go around, missed approach and/or an immediate return for landing, what "diamond checklist" items need to be accomplished on the CLIMB and DESCENT CHECKLISTS?
♦ LDG GEAR ♦ FLAPS ♦ BARO REF ♦ BRIEFING
