Zone D

- An area where there are possible but undetermined flood hazards because no analysis of flood hazards has been conducted. - The designation of Zone D is also used when a community incorporates portions of another community's area where no map has been prepared. - Flood insurance is available in Zone D and property owners should be encouraged to purchase it. - Flood insurance is not federally required by lenders for loans on properties in these zones.

Zone C and X (unshaded)

- Areas which represent a low flood risk. - These are areas of minimal flood hazard, which are the areas outside the SFHA and higher than the elevation of the 0.2-percent annual chance flood (500-year flood). - - Zone X (unshaded) is used on new and revised maps in place of Zone C.

Zone B and X (shaded)

- Areas which represent a moderate flood risk. Moderate flood hazard areas are the areas between the limits of the base flood and the 0.2-percent annual chance flood (500-year flood). - Zone X (shaded) is used on new and revised maps in place of Zone B.

VE Flood zone

- Detailed coastal study including base flood elevations for areas subject to high velocity flooding due to wave action. - including additional hazards associated to storm-induced, and velocity wave action

AO flood zone

- Detailed floodplain study including base flood depths for areas subject to sheet flow or areas with alluvial fans - (usually sheet flow on sloping terrain) where average depths are 1-3 feet. Sheet flow occurs when there are no defined channels, consequently the floodwaters spreads out over a large area at a uniform depth

AH flood zone

- Detailed floodplain study including base flood elevations for areas subject to shallow flooding or ponding. - Ponding occurs when runoff water collects in depressions and cannot drain out. BFEs derived from detailed hydraulic analyses are shown in this zone

A99 flood zone

Area to be protected from the base flood by levees or Federal Flood Protection Systems under construction. Base flood elevations are not determined.

V flood zone

Coastal areas subject to inundation by the 1-percent annual chance flood event including hazards associated with storm-induced waves. Because detailed hydraulic analyses have not been performed, no BFEs or flood depths are shown.

AE flood zone

Detailed floodplain study including base flood elevations. (current format)

A1-30 flood zone

Detailed floodplain study including base flood elevations. (previous format)

A flood zone

Floodplain is mapped using approximate methods. Base flood elevations are not determined.

AR flood zone

Floodplain resulting from the decertification of a previously accredited flood protection system that is in the process of being restored to provide protection from the base flood.

High risk flood zones

Zones A, AE, V and VE (insurance is mandatory)
