Describe the location of Bangladesh (continent, hemisphere, bordering countries and oceans).

Bangladesh is situated on the continent of Asia, in the Northern hemisphere. In the North, East and West lies the boarder of India with the south bordering the Bay of Bengal in the Indian Ocean. Bangladesh is very small with a size of approx. 147,600 km squared.

Why is it that Bangladesh is so susceptible to Disasters and Hazards? (Types of Disasters and Hazards, Factors which contribute to these).

The location of Bangladesh results in the country to be prone to disasters. Placed on the North of the Bay of Bengal and found between India and Myanmar, its geographical positioning means that it is prone to storm surges, where concentrated energy goes towards the country at a large frequency. In addition, it's flat lands mean that it s prone to floods, as well as droughts and storms from winds in the Indian Ocean. An example of this is the 2007 monsoon flooding. Many districts were affected by these floods with 500,000 people being trapped and an estimation of 7.5 million fleeing their homes. As a result of this, the country becomes overcrowded as people migrate to more populated areas which can provide safer grounds. Another impact of the large influx of people moving to the capital city of Bangladesh means that people become more susceptible to diseases such as cholera as they spread throughout the flooded waters. Moreover, the Bangladesh government cannot provide medical aid as a result of their low economy therefore seeks international assistance.
