Guiana Highlands

This is a large highlands region that covers nearly all of Guyana and extends into Venezuela, Brazil, Suriname, French Guiana, and Colombia. It is known for its tabletop mountains called tepuis, and is one of the regions with the highest biodiversity in the world. This highlands contains the highest mountain in Guyana, Mount Roraima, and it is most well known for its spectacular waterfalls including Angel Falls, the highest in the world.

Pacaraima Mountains

This is a mountain range of the Guiana Highlands that covers part of western Guyana that extends out of the country and along the border between Venezuela and Brazil. It forms the divide between the Orinoco Valley and the Amazon Basin, and its highest mountain is Mount Roraima, the highest mountain in Guyana. This range contains the sources of numerous rivers, and they plunge spectacularly off cliffs in this range to form large waterfalls.

Atlantic Ocean

This is an ocean that makes up the entire coast of Guyana. It lies between South America and Africa, and the capital and largest city of Georgetown lies on its coast.

Georgetown

This is the capital and largest city in Guyana, located in the northern part of the country. It is situated at the mouth of the Demerara River on the Atlantic Ocean, and is nicknamed the "Garden City of the Caribbean". This city has been occupied by the Dutch, English, and French at various points in its history, and it lies three feet below sea level at high tide.

Mount Roraima

This is the highest mountain in Guyana, at 9,022 feet. It is located in the Pacaraima Mountains of the Guiana Highlands in the western part of the country, and it lies on the border tri-point with Brazil and Venezuela. This mountain is a large tepui plateau, and is surrounded on all sides by sheer cliffs over a thousand feet tall.

Essequibo River

This is the largest river in Guyana, and the largest river in between the Orinoco and Amazon Rivers. It flows south to north across the entire country, from its source in the Acarai Mountains near the border with Brazil to its mouth at the Atlantic Ocean. This river's wide estuary has many small islands in it, and there are many waterfalls and rapids along its course.
