- occurs in a virtual chat room, which can include many different people who may or may not know each other. Many chat rooms focus on a particular topic or interest. - developed and launched during the 1970's. - The main goal for its design and conception was to give people the ability to chat with groups of people instantaneously

Chat

- a unique reference that identifies a web site on the internet. -Registered identification "string" (or word/phrase) used by the Domain Name System to define a specific area of control and autonomy (aka a website location).

Domain Name

A domain name is a descrterm-107iption or representation of a computer's location on the Internet. It is usually separated by a dot.For example: www.comentum.comWhat is DNS?

Domain Name

- a large database of domain names and their correspondent Internet (IP Addresses) for example: www.widget.com corresponds to its unique number 207.168.6.12

FIRST STEP ON HOW TO USE WEB BROWSER

-usually appears at the end of a URL and begins with a hash (#) character followed by an identifier. -are used on websites to implement "bookmarks" and internal page navigation elements. These can be used to provide links to specific locations within a page.

FRAGMENT/ ANCHOR

- a method of transferring files between two computers on the Internet. To access, upload or download information on a server computer (or a computer that accesses a server computer), -software makes the information access or transfer possible. What is a home Page?

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

- allows users to transfer files from one machine to another. Types of files may include program files, multimedia files, text files, and documents, etc.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

—sender and receiver can send and receive messages simultaneously in two parallel communication pathways.

Full duplex

-a feature which allows users to search the Web using Google through spoken voice commands rather than typing.

GOOGLE VOICE SEARCH ICON

-the domain name. It identifies the owner of the address.

Google

- a collection of rules implemented for searching, retrieving as well as displaying documents from isolated sites. - also works on the client/server principle.

Gopher

—communication in one channel in one direction at a time. Sender or receiver can send but not receive at the same time.

Half duplex

-the main or index page of a web site. For example, if a user opens Netscape or Internet Explorer and types the URL, http://www.commentum.com, that will open the home Page of the Commentum Communications company.

Home Page

tells the internet browser what protocol to use.

Http://

- designed for transferring a hypertext among two or more systems. HTML tags are used for creating links. These links may be in any form like text or images. HTTP is designed on Client-server principles which allow a client system for establishing a connection with the server machine for making a request. The server acknowledges the request initiated by the client and responds accordingly.

Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP)

- a standard protocol to secure the communication among two computers one using the browser and other fetching data from web server. HTTP is used for transferring data between the client browser (request) and the web server (response) in the hypertext format, same in case of (----) except that the transferring of data is done in an encrypted format. So it can be said that (----) thwart hackers from interpretation or modification of data throughout the transfer of packets.

Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS)

- text on a webpage that links to another document or webpage. -The (-----) link can be as small as a letter or word, or as big as all the text on the page

Hypertext

- a coding language used to tell a browser how to place pictures, text, multimedia and links to create a web page.

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)

-The most common protocol is...

Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP)

-The SECOND multimedia element -catches the viewers' attention much more quickly than just plain, old text. Almost every multimedia application contains images.

IMAGE

-designed explicitly as addressing protocol. It is mostly used with TCP. The IP addresses in packets help in routing them through different nodes in a network until it reaches the destination system. TCP/IP is the most popular protocol connecting the networks.

Internet Protocol (IP)

-is the method or protocol by which data is sent from one computer to another on the Internet. Each computer (known as a host) on the Internet has at least one IP address that uniquely identifies it from all other computers on the Internet.

Internet Protocol (IP)

-an unique number used to identify a computer on the Internet. If you are connected to the Internet, you must have a unique network number, which is an IP address. An example of an IP address is:207.168.6.12 There are four numbers separated by a dot and are between 0 and 255.

Internet Protocol (IP) address

- the literal combination of multiple types of media. Web-based multimedia, however, is a term used to describe the multimedia (sound, video, or animation, text and images) found within web pages. Similar to others, web-based multimedia pages display information requested by the user through hyperlinks. Multimedia web sites are interactive, often containing elements with which the visitor directly works. Sites that contain sound, video, animation, and/or images alongside text fall into this category. Typically, these sites use multiple applications such as these to convey certain information to the viewer of the web page.

-refers to a file or directory on the web server, e.g. /directory/file.php. -Sometimes the file name won't be specified, e.g. https://doepud.co.uk/blog/ so a web browser will automatically look inside the /blog/ folder for a file called index or default.

PATH

- rarely visible in URLs but always required. When declared in a URL it comes right after the TLD, separated by a colon. -When it's not declared and in most cases where the protocol is http, port 80 is used. For https (secure) requests port 443 is used.

PORT

-Declares how your web browser should communicate with a web server when sending or fetching a web page or document. -The most common protocol is http which stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol.

PROTOCOL

- snippets of information found in the query string of a URL. -represented in key/value pairs, beginning with a '?' and separated by an ampersand '&'. They can also be dynamically set in the path as values separated by slashes and other characters. -commonly used for tracking and analytics—as well as encoding specific information for use within websites and applications.

Parameters

a channel that a server software would listen to, for any inquiries, there are certain standard default channels set for certain server software. For example, a web server software by default will listen to port 80 for any inquiry.

Port

- designed for receiving incoming E-mails

Post office Protocol (POP)

- commonly found in the URL of dynamic pages and is represented by a question mark followed by one or more parameters. -Directly follows the domain name, path or port number.

QUERY

- the near simultaneous exchange of information over any type of telecommunications service from the sender to the receiver in a connection with negligible latency, according to Search Unified Communications - does not include email, bulletin boards, blogs or other forms of internet communication where users read content without regard to the time the sender posts it, which can create a significant delay between data transmission and reception. -In a communication of this type, there is a return path where the receiver can also communicate with the sender in real time.

Real time communications
