Operating System

Taskbar
The bar usually located at the bottom of Microsoft Windows operating systems, which displays the start button, system clock, programs that are currently running, as well as other open windows.
Processors
The device that processes data into information. An integrated circuit silicon chip that contains the processing unit for a computer or a computerized appliance
Restart
To make your computer turn off then immediately back on. Used for updating software.
Minimize
To turn a window into an icon or symbol.
Input/Output Port Addresses
Used to communicate between devices and software. The I/O port address is used to send and receive data for a component. As with IRQs, each component will have a unique I/O port assigned.
Start Button
Used to open Windows main menu. Only Windows based environments contain a start button.
View
A built in program that allows you to see either your folder or file in a variety of ways. For example folders can be viewed as icons or lists. Documents can be viewed in print or normal views.
Disk I/O
The transfer of data to or from an application.
Windows
A feature in a GUI usually rectangular shaped visual area that allows a person to see applications, folders, files and can be manipulated with a pointer.
Notification Area
A portion of the task bar that displays icons found in teh computer system.
Desktop
Main working space scene on a monitor after turning on a computer with a GUI interface
GUI
Pronounced "gooey". A.K.A. graphical user interface; a type of user interface that allows users to interact with electronic devices with images rather than text commands.
Memory
the physical devices used to store programs or data on a temporary or permanent basis for use in a computer or other digital electronic device.
Bus Transfer
transfers data or power between computer components inside a computer or between computers.
