This is due to the actions of the unopposed lateral rectus (supplied by the abducens nerve) and the superior oblique (supplied by the trochlear nerve). The tertiary function of the superior oblique is to cause intorsion (internal rotation) of the eyeball, a function that is not usually seen unless the oculomotor nerve is para- lyzed. Drooping of the right shoulder occurs as a result of paralysis of the trapezius as a result of injury to the right accessory nerve, which supplies that muscle.
