there was rumored gold in the west and went toward the Tenochitlan to get gold. to prevent abandonment he destroyed his ships. when they got to tenochitlan the aztecs opened the doors because they thought they were gods and treated them as royalty. but then later decided to civilize the tribe by conquering emperor montezuma II and then used the Aztecs as labor to search for gold

went to Tenochtitlan to obtain gold and conquered emperor montezuma II because thought there traditions were uncivilized. they won by using weapons, having easy access, disease, and the help by anti aztec allies
