captain needs to decide which one can come out after 2 mins, which one is out after first whistle, and which one starts after the first ones expire.

challenging or disputing rulings of any official, taunts or incites an opponent, creates a disturbance during the game, shoots puck after the whistle if avoidable.

Fouled from Behind

This includes any infraction committed to an opponent either directly or diagonally from behind (beyond the fouled player's peripheral vision), that would normally be deemed a penalty. player must have possession and control of puck, beyond defensive zone, no opponent to pass except the goalie, and denied a reasonable scoring opportunity.

r.621 s. 1 if contact with the head is during a check, you call head contact. Any other contact, high stick

Cross-Checking signal
A forward motion with both fists clenched, extending from the chest.
a team is already shorthanded, commits a minor penalty. 1. Gets scored on before penalty is up and 2. Scores while down 1 man.
1. first penalty expires. New penalty comitter goes in. 2. in this case, the "new" penalty expires as it is deemed playing at equal strenght.

2018-2019 checking initiative - what factors make a check unacceptable? What is the call?
Stick should be below the knees with an attempt to play puck, and no finishing the check by continuing to acclellerate through a check. Check cannot use hands, arm forearm, stick or elbow. Player is permitted to make contact after pass provided the contact is minimized. If opponent can anticipate the illegal hut, assess a roughing penalty. otherwise, this is charging/head contact. Head contact as part of a check is an automatic 5/GM. No 2/10 available.

Still 10, regardless of how much time is left in game.
Tripping signal
Strike the side of the knee and follow through once, keeping the head up and both skates on the ice.
Boarding signal
Striking the closed fist of the hand into the open palm of the other hand.
Elbowing signal
Tapping the elbow with the opposite hand.
are shot blockers legal?
Technically, no. r302(b), no additional equipment or contrivance shall be attached to the skate of any player or goalie.

A misconduct, game misconduct or match penalty, depending on the severity of the offense.

A punch, or an attempted punch, thrown by any player in the direction of an opponent 5 and Gm, instigator gets an additional 2.
Spearing signal
A single jabbing motion with both hands together, thrust forward from in front of the chest, then dropping the hands to the side.
Goal Scored signal
A single point, with the non-whistle hand, directly at the goal in which the puck legally entered, while simultaneously blowing the whistle.
Hooking signal
A tugging motion with both arms, as if pulling something toward the stomach.
when is it too late to change a call?

When is a penalty shot option awarded
Anytime there is a clear and imminent breakaway and player is fouled from behind. Penalty shot is in addition to a major (if applicable) even if a goal is scored. If a specific player is fouled, they must take the shot unless injured or get a misconduct or GM (teammate on ice takes it). May still shoot if gets minor or major.

Coach refuses to leave bench after GM or match and directs play
Assess a bench minor for refusal to start play. Ask captain to remove coach. If still unable, rink security can remove

Both arms swung laterally across the body at shoulder level with palms down.
Timeout and Unsportsmanlike Conduct signal
Using both hands to form a "T".
when should a ref stop play due to being trapped along the boards?
a player falls on the puck, is knocked down on the puck, or there is a player ready to deliver a check to vulnerable players along the boards. if no effort is made by one or both players, ref needs to warn to play. If not played, will need to assess a delay of game minor to player(s) most responsible for delay.
team warned about a slow line change, and does it again
according to delay of game, the team doesn't get another warning and this is an immediate delay of game minor.
player helmet comes off
all levels but adult, play is whistled dead immediately. Player removed and cannot participate until after faceoff. Adult player - cannot resume play until replaced. may skate to bench as well.
2 players on the same team start fighting
both players get a GM. if fight occurs on the ice, there is a penalty for delay of game. no additional penalty if in penalty box or off ice.
proper faceoff procedures
both players have no more than 5 seconds total to place their sticks on the ice, with contact with nearest white area of face-off spot.

Attempt to Injure
Deliberately trying to harm an opponent or official (successfully or not). This type of infraction carries an automatic match penalty.
When is a penalty shot considered over?
Goalie stops puck, goalie pokechecks puck causing player to lose possession, player goes backwards with puck, or puck crosses goal line. Good goal if hits post, then goalies back of leg and in, but no goal if puck hits back glass, goalie's back and then in.
High-Sticking signal
Holding both fists, clenched, one immediately above the other, at the side of the head.
Removing own or opponents helmet/facemask prior to an altercation
If actions causes removal but not deliberate, this is a GM if deliberate, penalty is a match
goalie plays the puck beyond the red line
If deliberate, this is a minor penalty. The rule is the skates must be behind the red line. This does not apply if accidentally struck by the puck going to the bench.
Butt-Ending signal
Moving the forearm, fist closed, under the forearm of the other hand held palm down.
where can a player bat the puck to a teammate?
Must begin and end in that team's defensive zone.
When can a player who incurs a match penalty return to team?
Must have a hearing within 30 days. Cannot return to games or practices while waiting for disciplinary actions.
attacking player touches puck with stick above shoulders, puck deflects off of an opponent and goes in the net. what's the call?
No goal. in order to negate the high stick, the defensive player must have possession and control.
Player fouled from behind (minor), still scores
No penalty shot. Penalty is recorded but deemed served.
goalie is outside crease and catches puck with glove. Does not play puck in order to get stoppage of play
No penalty unless there are no attacking players within immediate vicinity.
Goalie commits penalty on a penalty shot
Penalty shot redo of not scored and penalty is still assessed. This also applies if goal is deliberately dislodged
when can a major for roughing be called?
a body check after whistle has blown or a late avoidable body check This cannot be called in lieu of a 5+GM fighting
Checking from behind
a check is delivered to a player directly from behind, or diagonally from behind. 2 and 10 or 5 and game. match if clearly checks opponent from behind with excessive force while opponent is in a vulnerable or defenseless position or the action is a deliberate attempt to injure an opponent.
player attempts to bite opponent while fighting
Player gets a match for intent to injure and a 5+GM for fighting. The general rule that you call the more serious penalty doesn't apply here because this is reserved for minor infractions (holding, elbowing etc.)
use of tobacco in a game
Prohibited. give warning to first offense, then a bench minor is assessed if persists.
Procedure for a penalty shot
Puck is at center ice. Goalie must stay in crease until touches puck. Puck must be in motion towards net at all times. Goalie can stop it in any manner but throwing stick (assessed minor). If goal scored, faceoff at center ice. Otherwise, it that teams offensive zone.
when may a linesman stop play
Puck out of playing area, puck interfwerd with an ineligable plater, high stick (nonpenalty), handpass, goalpost dislodged, goal covered/ref can;t see. faceoff offsides, premature substitution of goalie, injured player, spectator interserence, too many players, items thrown on ice, deliberatelyt displacing goal post.
Second major in a game
R403 call is major plus GM, 2 game suspension. Substitute serves the major. If discovered 2nd major after being assessed, ref needs to give GM even.if after the game. If a goal is scored when should have had a GM assessed, goal still counts.
Penalty shot takes is distracted
Redo penalty shot, player causing the distraction gets a misconduct penalty

Rotating clenched fists around one another in front of the chest.
body checking
deliberate physical contact with the opponent using overt hip, shoulder, arm or torso action. This includes physically impeding the opponent's progress for the purpose of physically forcing the opponent off the puck and with no effort to legally play the puck. A minor or major penalty shall be assessed to a player who body checks an opponent in a Body Contact category or non-check Adult classification

if helmet was not properly secured, the player who lost thier helmet is assessed a match penalty. If pushed off by an opponent, opponent gets the match. if cannot be determined, the helmet wearer is penalized.
bodychecking a goalie
if in the privileged area, body checking or chargin a goalie is a 2 and 10 penalty. If accidental and a bump, it is a minor penalty for interference. if outside the privileged area, this is a legal body check
puck is shot out of the playing area
if it was the goalie (any had possession and control of the puck), this is a delay of game minor. if it was a player, it is only a penalty if it was intentional.
attacker runs into goalie
if not pushed by defender, goalie is in priviliged area, and an honest attempt is made to avoid the contact, this is still charging. 2 and 10. Otherwise, 5 and game. goalie can't abuse this an initate contact, though.
player flicks off ref or opponent
if seen by ref, immediate game misconduct

it must be a direct deflection and then in. If it goes off any other player or boards/crossbar, it is a good goal.

handling of puck with hands
play is stopped with a last play faceoff when a player closes his hand on the puck and doesn't immediately drop the puck to the ice. must be one motion. cannot take 2 strides, drop it away from stick, or fake drop puck. if in crease, and goalie is on ice penalty shot/minor option. If goalie is out of game, this is an awarderd goal. anywhere else - a minor penalty for delay of game.
Boarding
player pushes, trips or body checks an opponent causing them to go dangerously into the boards. This includes: Accelerating through the check to a player who is in a vulnerable position, driving an opponent excessively into the boards with no focus on or intent to play the puck, or any check delivered for the purpose of punishment or intimidation that causes the opponent to go unnecessarily and excessively into the boards. 2 and 10 or 5 and game. auto 5 and game if player is injured. match for attempt to injure.
how long before a player must drop the puck if caught in the air?
r618s.1 must be a continuous motion. cannot hold puck for any length of time
offensive player bats a puck in offensive zone, hits defensive player's stick and goes in net. Goal or no goal?
r618s.2 no. the deflection does not negate the goal going in the net.
offensive player bats a puck in offensive zone, which hits a defender, and is then picked up by: 1. another offensive player. or 2. same offensive player.
r618s.4,5 1. play is stopped for a hand pass. Defensive player never had possession and control of the puck 2. play continues. any goal scored would count.
where is the faceoff if a player bats a puck in the neutral zone to a player in the defensive zone (gains possession and control).
r618s.7 always give the worse face off spot for offending team. in this case, it was passed backwards, so faceoff will be defensive zone. If the pass was passed forwards, the faceoff would be closest non-territorial advantage faceoff of where batted.
goalies falls on loose puck in privileged area when opponent is going towards the net
provided not in the crease, this is a penalty for delay of game. Goalie has the obligation to play the puck just like everyone else.
what is headbutting
r. 619 use of one's head in the process of delivering a body check to the head, neck or back area or physical use of the head to strike an opponent. this is a major+GM. If intent it injure, a match may be called.
how much force must be behind a check or other contact to the players head in order to call a head contact
r. 620 s. 1 USA hockey feels any contact is enough.

is the goalie allowed to throw the puck to a teammate?
r.618(c) Cannot throw the puck forward, but may throw the puck to the side or to the rear. If goalie does throw forward, play is stopped and faceoff at nearest end face-off spot

what is a high stick
r.621 where a player carries thier stick above the normal height of the opponent's shoulders and makes contact with the opponent. a player must be accountable for being in control of thier stick at all times minor or major. major plus GM if injures opponent

r203(d) If going to play out at any point, cannot wear goalie equipment or have goalie privileges. It is permissible for a skater to wear the equipment and have goalkeeper privileges if goalie becomes incapacitated
Line change procedure
r204. Upon the Referee's signal prior to the start of a period and following any stoppage of play, the visiting team shall have five seconds to place a lineup on the ice. The home team is then provided 5 seconds to place their lineup on the ice. Once the substitutions have occurred, no additional changes may be made until play has resumed, unless a penalty has been imposed. If there is any undue delay by either team in placing their lineup on the ice, the Referee shall warn the offending team. Any subsequent delay by the same team will result in a minor penalty for delay of game.
when to stop play for an injured player
r206(a) stopped once offending team has possession of puck unless obvious serious injury. Obvious bleeding will cause immediate stoppage and cannot continue until bleeding stopped. injured player getting whistle must leave the ice (unless goalie). If refuse demand by ref, isssue a bench minor penalty for delay of game. (s.3)

can a player/goalie play with a painted helmet
r304 s.12 no, if covers entire area, this voids the manfacturer's warranty. small painted logals/stickers are legal. there are legal custom painted hecc approved helmets.
can a player play with a goalie helmet
r304 s.8 no, the goalie helmet is only certified for playing net.
what equipment is required for warm-ups and the game?
r304 same for each. gloves, shin pads, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hip pads or padded hockey pants, protective cup, tendon pads plus all head protective equipment

If the player commits the unsportsmanlike prior to starting to serve the penalty, another player on the ice must serve the goalie's minor. If already serving the goalies minor, the player also serves their own penalty.

No. Cannot direct the game in any way.
Goalie commits a penalty, delayed whistle. Once blown, a player leaves the penalty box as their penalty expired. May this player serve the goalie's penalty?
No. only players on the ice at the time the penalty occurred may serve a goalie's penalty.
what penalties are not subject to a delayed whistle signal?
ONLY if being assessed a misconduct, game misconduct. this does NOT mean blow it dead immediately. Rather, it means don't raise your arm. Faceoff at the nearest face off location unless in offending team's attacking zone or due to non-offending team icing the puck or causing puck to go out of play. Yes. the player with 2 sticks cannot participate in the play while carrying 2 sticks, this would be a penalty for illegal equipment.

You'd know because player immediately gets up and skates away. this is a minor penalty for delay of game.

unless pushed there by defenseman, this disallows a goal.
Elbowing
use of an extended elbow as the point of contact with an opponent while delivering a check, or as a means to create separation with an opponent. an attempted elbow is also penalized. this is a minor or major. major plus game if injures opponent.
butt ending
using the shaft of the stick above the opper and to check an opposing player or jabs/attempts to jab an opponent. this is a 5 and game, even if just an attempt. match if injures or attempts to injure.
cross-checking
using the shaft of the stick between the two hands to forcefully check an opponent with no portion of the stick on the ice. Stick must be off the ice and there must be an extension of the arms (steering is ok) for this call. This still may be interference if the puck isn't there. 2 or 5. 5 and game if injured.
charging
when a player takes more than 2 strides or travels an excessive distance to accelerate through a body check for the purpose of punishing the opponent. this includes jumping into an opponent to deliver a check. 2 and 10 or 5 and game. 5 and game or match if causes an injury
when to do a last play faceoff
when stoppage of play is due to actions on both teams. it is the nearest face-off dot where the puck was last played. This applies even if penalties assessed to both teams & minutes are uneven.
penalty progression for abuse of official
you can start with a misconduct, but generally minor/misconduct/warn captain/ additional minor for delay of game
