Intensive vs Extensive Properties
Temperature
A measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a sample of matter, Extensive Property
Width
A measurement of how wide an object is. Not helpful for identifying it. Extensive Property.
Volume
How much space an object takes up-Extensive Property
Density
Mass per unit of volume- means divide the mass by the volume and you find this. -Intensive Property
Length
Measurement- Extensive Property
Color
Physical Property that describes an object visually.-Intensive Property
Melting point
The temperature at which a given material changes from a solid to a liquid, or melts; Intensive Property
Ductility
When a substance can be drawn into wires. -Intensive Property
Malleability
When a substance can be made into thin sheets. -Intensive Property
Intensive Property
a property that depends on the type of matter in a sample, not the amount of matter. Can be used to identify a substance.
Extensive Property
a property that describes a specific sample or amount. Cannot be used to identify a substance.
Odor
he property of a substance that activates the sense of smell. -Intensive Property
Boiling point of water
temperature at which a substance changes its state from liquid to gas. Intensive Property
Mass
the quantity of matter in a body regardless of its volume or of any forces acting on it. -Extensive Property
