What areas of medicine are you interested in?

Currently, I am open to all areas of medicine because I do not want to limit my choices too soon.

Why do you think you make a good doctor?

I am able to empathize with other people, critically think, and enjoy the act of helping other people.

What special qualities do you feel you possess that you set you apart from other medical school candidates?

I am emotionally mature.

What books have you read lately?

I am reading a The virgin way: everything I know about leadership by Richard Branson, and one of my more favorite books I've just finished is called learn better.

How have you tested your motivation to become an MD?

I have looked into science field, but a physician aligns with who I want to be in the future.

How have you tried to achieve breadth in your undergraduate curriculum?

I have tried to many different classes that interested me outside the scope of science such as public speaking, psychology, sociology, and business.

What general and specific skills would you hope an ideal medical school experience would give you?

I hope they could give me the tool set in order to cure people of their diseases along with leadership skills because a doctor does not work alone.

After 20 years as a physician, what kind of success would you hope to have achieved?

I hope to have honed my skills as a physician and am starting to approach the fore front of science advancement.

How would you feel about treating a patient who has tested positive for HIV?

I would follow the regulations.

What would you do if it were impossible for you to go to medical school?

I would go dental school

How would you deal with not being at the top of your class in medical school, after being at the top in undergrad?

I would not compare myself to other students and always try my best so I would feel no ill will about being last.

If you had to choose between clinical and academic medicine as a profession, which would you pick? What do you feel you might lose by being forced to choose?

I would pick clinical because of my love for applying the knowledge.

Thinking of examples from your recent past, how would you asses your empathetic compassion?

I would say that I am able to empathize with many different types of people.

If, at the end of the semester, you are not in the top 20%, what do you do to improve your performance?

I would take a hard look at my habits and work ethic. If those are in order, then I would go ask for advice.

IF you are a minority candidate, how do you feel your background uniquely prepares you to be, and will influence your role as, a physician?

My upbringing has engraved in me the importance of helping those in need and hard work.

Open to criticism. Hard working.

What aspects of medicine interest you the most?

The knowledge and its application to solve puzzles every day.

The research story.

What is a problem you see with regards to the current healthcare system?

The stratification in health care as african americans with the same health problems are less likely to receive treatment as their caucasian american counterparts.

Is there one thing in your life you're especially proud of

There are a number of events that I am equally proud of but all of them include me standing up to fear and doing what is right.

Does you academic record reflect any major challenges? If so, what are they and why did they occur?

There was a drop in my GPA my junior year because I did not know how to separate my personal life from my professional life and a vice versa. Also, my time management skills were not what they are now.

What excites you about medicine in general?

That the field is constantly and changing and is one of the fastest growing fields.

What are some of the ethical issues that our society considers in regard to teenage pregnancy?

That the teenager is not ready to be a mother.

What qualities do you look for in a physician?

Compassionate, understanding

Assume there are limited resources available and you must make decisions in a major emergency with a wide assortment of patients from all ages, backgrounds, and degree of injury. Who would receive treatment?

Either the one that is suffering the most or children.

To what extent do you feel that you owe a debt to your fellow man? To what extent do you owe a debt to those less fortunate than yourself?

I do not feel a debt to either of them. I help them because I want to and because I enjoy.

How do you envision using your medical education?

I envision myself in any shape or form bettering the lives of those around me and advancing the medical field.

I have a wide array of skills. I can make a mean catfish poboy and laminate your floor.

What travels have you taken and what exposure to other cultures have you had?

I have been to vietnam multiple times and mexico.

how do you deal with stress?

I like to relieve stress by going for walks or working out.

What do you do for leisure or to relax?

I like to watch movies or read books.

What will you do if you are not accepted this year?

I will get my masters in pharmacology.

If you had unlimited money for 1 year, what would you do?

I would create a business so that people and myself can better ourselves.

It affects people by giving some aid while others not.

It has exposed me to many different types of people so that when I can treat them as patients I will be able to understand them better.

It has taught me the definition of professionalism, ethics, the importance of detail and organization, and critical thinking skills.

My insatiable curiosity about science.

Why did you choose your undergraduate major?

My main interest was science and so being a biological sciences major would allow me to take more science classes.

Why Shreveport?

Shreveport health's business of science is important to me because I believe that entrepreneurship is another important part to the advancement of medicine.

What different feelings and issues might you experience with a terminally ill patient, as a opposed to other patients?

Terminally ill patients will a very different outlook on life. I would be worried that they have given up on life and take the extra measures to help push through their difficult time coping.

If you could be granted three wishes for making the world/society/ your community a better place.
