intro to computers
computer
A computer is an electric devise, operating under control of instructions stored in its own memory, that can accept data, process the data according to specified rules, produce results, and store the results for storage use.
desktop computers
A desktop computer is designed so that the system unit, input devises, output devises, and any other devises fit entirely on or under a desk or table.
mobile computer
A mobile computer is a personal computer you carry from place to place.
mobile devise
A mobile devise is a computing devise small enough to hold in your hand.
notebook computers
A notebook computer, also called a laptop computer, is a portable personal computer
peripheral
A peripheral is a devise that connects to the system unit and is controlled by the processer in the computer. Peripherals can include input devises and output devises, as well as some storage devises and communications devises.
personal computer
A personal computer is a computer that can perform all of its input, processing, output devises, and storage activities by itself.
information processing cycle
Computers perform four basic operations - input, process, output, and storage. These operations comprise the information processing cycle. Collectively, these operations process data into information and store it for future use.
green computing
Green computing involves reducing the electricity consumed and environmental waste generated when using a computer.
information
Information conveys meaning and is useful to people. During the output operation the information that has been created is put into some form, such as printed report, or it can be stored on the computer for future use.
users
People who use the computer directly or use the information it provides are called computer users, end users, or sometimes, just users. Users and computer manufactures can reduce the environmental impact of computers through green computing.
data
Data is a collection of unprocessed items, which can include text, numbers, images, audio, and video. Computers manipulate data to create information.
