Intro to the SA Oral Cavity - Dentition, Roots, Directions, Anatomy
what is the attached gingiva
Coronal to mucogingival line (C)
what is the Alveolar mucosa
The apical to mucogingival line (A)
the periodontal anatomy can be thought of as
everything that holds the tooth in the head
Distal means what?
interproximal surface of the tooth farthest away from the central incisor
Mesial means what?
interproximal surface of the tooth nearest the central incisor
what is the Apical Delta
it is located at the root apex, where the pulp canal branches out to form many small foramina.
What is the Peridontal ligament? What is its function?
it is the ligament that wraps around the tooth and holds it in place
Coronal means what?
lying or moving toward the crown
Apical means what?
lying or moving towards the apex (tip) of the root of the tooth
What is Pulp?
the cavity inside the root canal, pulp chamber and pulp horns. it contains vessels, nerves, cells and fluid
What is Dentin?
the hard calcified tissue forming the middle layer of the tooth and is covered by enamel (crown) and cementum (root)
What is Enamel?
the hard calcified tissue that covers the dentin of the crown portion of the tooth
What is the mucogingival line
the line that is separating the attached gingiva from the alveolar mucosa. (B)

What is the dental formula for the permanent feline adult teeth?
2 (I3/3, C1/1, P3/P2, M1/M1) = 30 teeth
What is the dental formula for the permanent canine adult teeth?
