Central Limit Theorem
1. The theory that, as sample size increases, the distribution of sample means of size n, randomly selected, approaches a normal distribution. 2. CLT states that when dealing with continuous data, the larger the sample size, the closer the data will approximate the normal curve.
Choosing the Right Probability Distribution for Calc Menu
1. Use Binomial Distribution for binomial data, or data that deals with number of trials and event probability. In another word, the likelihood of one event or the other occurring for each trial. 2. Use Normal Distribution when you are dealing with data that is normal or approximates the normal curve.
In Minitab, when you are dealing with binomial data and a consistent event probability for every trial, which distribution should be used?
a. Non-random Distribution b. Poisson Distribution c. Multinomial Distribution d. Binomial Distribution
Random Data Function under the Calc Menu Option
This is one of three major capability of the Calc menu option found in the menu bar of Minitab. The random data tool lets you generate random data that conforms to a certain probability distribution. This tool is helpful when testing different capabilities in Minitab or practicing Six Sigma statistical analysis without your own data to start with. Also helpful if you want to compare your own data to various types of distributions.
Calc Menu Option inf Minitab
This is one of three statistical analysis functions found in the menu bar of Minitab. Calc menu has 3 major capabilities. 1. Generate random data 2. Calculate column or row statistics 3. Calculate probabilities given various distributions.
Probability Density Function (PDF)
The probability that a random variable, x, will occur in the data. E.g., In a given population of people, what is the probability that a random selected person will weigh 125 lbs.?
Cumulative Density Function (CDF)
The probability that a randomly selected data point will be less than or equal to a variable, x. E.g., In a given population of people, what is the probability that a randomly selected person will weigh less than or equal to 125 lbs.?
Column or Row Statistics Functions under the Calc Menu Option
Useful when you need to know a specific statistic about your data quickly. This function lets you calculate the sum, mean, standard deviation, min, max, range, median, sum of squares, or N total given data in a single column or row.
