LSA (leaping)

What are the typical stages of English speaking levels?

IS, DSA, DSB to LSD, and then MSA to MSB

DSA (development)

clearly hear, understand, and express topics relating to the lesson; conversation skills are developed through theme-based dialogues; and correctly spell words using blends and phonograms in response to dictation from the teacher

IS (introduction A to B)

learn to read basic words beginning with simple letters, understand and speak simple TPR expressions, and understand and answer simple questions using basic vocabulary including numbers, 1-100, colors, simple adjectives, and family members

DSD (development)

learn various vocabulary and expressions through story listening and reading, comprehend stories and answer in complete sentences, summarize stories using the pictures, learn basic grammar and sentence structure, and write sentences using skills acquired through sentence composition practice

DSC (development)

learn various vocabulary and expressions, understand dialogues of diverse situations, comprehend stories and answer in complete sentences, understand fairy tales and creative stories that have 500-1000 words, learn basic grammar and sentence structure, and write sentences using skills acquired through sentence composition practice

MS (Master)

output-oriented class; the focus is on the process rather than the end result, the Portfolio is a key element of learning, UCC is done to share their presentation, students do activities based upon the body of the featured topics and are encouraged to participate in independent study, writing level should be on par with U.S. students in grades 5-6, use 300 vocabulary words that they mastered for each book they read

What are the basic JLS rules and regulations?

provide an English-speaking environment where English is always encouraged, have set rules for each class, act as a positive role model, be flexible, be a contributing team member, practice professionalism, be knowledgeable and supportive of applicable Board policies and admin procedures, be punctual

LSC (leaping)

students speak about key issues related to a large variety of nonfiction, simple research and presentation to build confidence, easy participation in group discussions, use the Independent Reader to maximize their opportunity for growth, students are able to read long novels with confidence and understanding, paragraph writing, portfolio writing assignments, and feedback on paragraphs from the teacher

LSD (leaping)

students speak about key issues related to a large variety of nonfiction, simple research and presentation to build confidence, group discussions, students are exposed to a variety of award-winning, best-selling, and classic books, Independent Reader, reading long novels with ease and confidence, students improve the accuracy of their English writing by practicing various styles, confident self-study skills

LSB (leaping)

students speak about key issues related to a large variety of nonfiction, simple research and presentation to build confidence, students learn story-telling by speaking fluently about the important chapters in a book, all reading skills learned up to this point are combined to learn speed reading at a rate of 180 to 200 words per minute while maintaining 70-80% comprehension, and students create a portfolio of written work and get more comfortable with different styles of English

DSB (development)

understand words and expressions related to everyday life, form full sentence questions and answer with some brief free conversation, perform roleplays, read fairy tales smoothly and accurately, complete a guided comprehension activity after reading, and copy paragraphs into a notebook to improve writing skills and punctuation
