Outlook

Document window

Insertion point

A blinking vertical line that indicates where the next character typed will be placed.

File extension

A dot followed by three or four characters at the end of a file name, used to indicate the file type.

Subfolder

A folder contained within another folder.

Shortcut

A menu that appears when you right-click something in the program window; it contains a list of commands you are most likely to use with the item or text you right-clicked.

Screen tip

A note that appears on the screen to provide information about a button, tracked change, or comment, or to display footnote or endnote. Also displays the text that will appear if you choose to insert a date or AutoText entry.

PowerPoint

A presentation that opens by default in Slide Show view, outlines, organizational charts, handouts, and speaker's notes.

Ribbon

A strip of icons that appears across the top of the PowerPoint window; divided into tabs, each of which contains groups of related tools.

Beam

A structural member, usually horizontal, that carries a load that is applied transverse to its length.

Word

A word-processing application that enables you to create, edit, print, and share documents such as letters, memos, and reports

Move up or down a page on the screen

Cursor

Brief to the point of being superficial

File compatibility

The ability of a file to be opened or used in an application without a problem or format conflict.

Path

The route the operating system uses to locate a document.

Backstage view

The view that opens when you click the File tab, containing commands for managing files, setting program options, and printing.

Quick Access Toolbar

Toolbar at the upper-left corner of the PowerPoint window that provides easy access to tools you use frequently, such as Save and Undo.

Shortcut menu

What is the name of the list of frequently used commands that appears when you right-click an object? A list of commands related to a selection that opens when you click the right mouse button.

Template

a feature that includes pre-made documents that allow the user to fill-in-the blanks to create new documents, such as calendars, invoices, reports, resumes, etc.; enhances user's efficiency and creativity

Jumplist

shows destinations and tasks from a program's taskbar button.

Application window

the main window that serves as the primary interface between the user and the application.
