LICENCE SANCTIONS AND CONSEQUENCES

You don't hold a valid licence if:

A court disqualifies you from driving Your licence has been suspended because of demerit points Your licence is expired Your licence has been cancelled because of a medical condition You don't hold the class of licence for the vehicle you are driving.

A court order can disqualify you from holding or obtaining a driver licence, if you've been convicted of:

A drink or drug driving offence, A dangerous driving offence, Any offence involving the driving or use of a motor vehicle.

RED-LIGHT CAMERA

A photograph is taken of any vehicle that enters the intersection after the light turns red.

Your learner licence will be suspended if you:

Accumulate four or more demerit points in one year (three month suspension), Fail to pay your fines, Are caught driving more than 40km/h over the speed limit (six month suspension).

RANDOM BREATH TESTING (RBT)

An RBT device detects your breath alcohol concentration (BAC). You'll be asked by a Police Officer to blow into a testing device. If your BAC is higher than what your licence or vehicle type allows, you'll be detained for further testing. If you refuse to supply a breath specimen you will be sent to court.

MOBILE PHONE AND SEATBELT CAMERAS

Cameras can detect you using a mobile phone illegally when driving. They can also detect you or your front seat passengers not wearing a seatbelt.

RANDOM ROADSIDE DRUG TESTING

Drug driving is a serious offence. Police Officers use a saliva test to detect the active ingredients of the following drugs: THC (Cannabis) MDMA (Ecstasy) Methylamphetamine (Speed or Ice).

If you drive while you are disqualified by a court or unlicensed you risk serious consequences including:

Further disqualification (two or more years), Hefty fines, Going to jail.

DOUBLE DEMERIT POINTS

If you commit certain offences more than once within a one year period of the first offence.

RANDOM BREATH AND DRUG TESTING

The Queensland Police Service regularly carry out random breath tests and saliva tests to ensure that nobody is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
