gradient (slope)

The gradient of a straight line is the rate at which the line rises (or falls) vertically for every unit horizontally. That is: Gradient = Rise / Run

x-intercept

The point where a line crosses the x axis

y-intercept

The point where a line cuts the y axis

perpendicular lines

Two lines where the y intercept is the same

parallel lines

When the gradient of two lines is the same.

y = 3x - 2

Where the y intercept is -2 and the gradient is 3/1

y = -2x + 3

Where the y intercept is 3 and the gradient is -2/1

y = -2x - 3

Write the equation of the line in slope intercept form from the graph.

y = 4x +3 when x = 2 y =??

y = 11

Linear equation form (slope-intercept form)

y = mx + c where m is the gradient and c is the y-intercept.
