What happens at the meetings?

After the hoisting of the flag all the animals trooped into the big barn for a general assembly which was known as the Meeting. Here the work of the coming week was planned out and resolutions were put forward and debated. It was always the pigs who put forward the resolutions. The Meeting always ended with the singing of 'Beasts of England', and the afternoon was given up to recreation.

How do the animals respond?

All the pigs were in full agreement on this point, even Snowball and Napoleon. Squealer was sent to make the necessary explanations to the others.

What bothers Boxer about his part in the battle? What is Snowball's respone?

Boxer doesn't like that he killed the boy. Snowball's response was 'No sentimentality, comrade. 'War is war. The only good human being is a dead one.'

Who becomes a stand out among the workers? Why what is his personal Motto?

Boxer, the horse, was the hardest worker and became the standout. He seemed to be doing the work of three horses. He worked hard from morning until night and even woke up 30 minutes early to do volunteer work. His motto was, "I will work harder!"

Infer why Napoleon and Snowball send pigeons to other farms to tell them the story of the Rebellion and teach tem Beasts of England.

Every day Snowball and Napoleon sent out flights of pigeons whose instructions were to mingle with the animals on neighbouring farms, tell them the story of the Rebellion, and teach them the tune of 'Beasts of England'. They did this to let the other animals know that they could overtake their farms. The goal is to get rid of human beings.

How does snowball summarize the seven commandments said that the stupid animals can remember?

Describe Mr. Pilkington and Foxwood.

Foxwood, was a large, neglected, old-fashioned farm, much overgrown by woodland, with all its pastures worn out and its hedges in a disgraceful condition. Its owner, Mr Pilkington, was an easy-going gentleman-farmer who spent most of his time in fishing or hunting according to the season.

Which character begins to show signs of becoming a problem?

Mollie was becoming a problem because she woke up late and left work early.

Where was Mollie during the battle?

Mollie was found hiding in her stall with her head buried among the hay in the manger.

What does Mr. Jones do with most of his time now that he has been kicked off the farm?

Most of this time Mr Jones had spent sitting in the taproom of the Red Lion at Willingdon, complaining to anyone who would listen of the monstrous injustice he had suffered in being turned out of his property by a pack of good-for-nothing animals.

What happened to Jesse, and Bluebell' puppies?

Napoleon took the puppies away from their moms.

Why have humans come back to Animal Farm?

Obviously they were going to attempt the recapture of the farm.

Describe a typical Sunday.

On Sundays there was no work. Breakfast was an hour later than during the week and then there was a ceremony.

Describe Mr. Frederick and Pinchfield.

Pinchfield, was a smaller farm and better kept than Foxwood. Its owner was a Mr Frederick, a tough, shrewd man, perpetually involved in lawsuits and with a name for driving hard bargains.

Snowball, who had studied an old book of Julius Caesar's campaigns which he had found in the farmhouse, was in charge of the defensive operations.

How do the animals honor Snowball and Boxer for their part in the Battle? How do the animals honor the fallen sheep?

The animals decided unanimously to create a military decoration, 'Animal Hero, First Class', which was conferred there and then on Snowball and Boxer. It consisted of a brass medal (they were really some old horse-brasses which had been found in the harness-room), to be worn on Sundays and holidays. There was also 'Animal Hero, Second Class', which was conferred posthumously on the dead sheep.

What problems did the animals face when harvesting the fields?

The biggest problem the animals faced when harvesting the fields was that the tools were made for humans to use, not for animals. Also, they were not allowed to stand on two feet when using them.

On the flag, what do with the color, hoof, and horn symbols?

The flag was green, Snowball explained, to represent the green fields of England, while the hoof and horn signified the future Republic of the Animals which would arise when the human race had been finally overthrown.

Why was the harvest a big success this year?

The harvest was a big success because it was the largest crop ever harvested and the animals were able to finish it two days faster than Mr. Jones and his men were able to do.

Explain distribution of the apples and the mystery of the milk?

The mystery of where the milk went to was soon cleared up. It was mixed every day into the pigs' mash. The early apples were now ripening, and the grass of the orchard was littered with windfalls.

Describe the levels of learning of the animals particularly the pics Muriel Benjiman clever boxer and Molly?

The pigs could already read and write perfectly. The dogs learned to read fairly well, but were not interested in reading anything except the Seven Commandments. Muriel, the goat, could read somewhat better than the dogs, and sometimes used to read to the others in the evenings from scraps of newspaper which she found on the rubbish heap. Benjamin could read as well as any pig, but never exercised his faculty. So far as he knew, he said, there was nothing worth reading. Clover learnt the whole alphabet, but could not put words together. Boxer could not get beyond the letter D. He would trace out A, B, C, D in the dust with his great hoof, and then would stand staring at the letters with ears back, sometimes shaking his forelock, trying with all his might to remember what came next and never succeeding. On several occasions, indeed, he did learn E, F, G, H, but by the time he knew them it was always discovered that he had forgotten A, B, C and D. Finally he decided to be content with the first four letters, and used to write them out once or twice every day to refresh his memory. Mollie refused to learn any but the five letters which spelt her own name

What shows that there are problems with the leadership of the new government?

There were problems in the leadership because the pigs start running everything.

What is Mr. Pilkington and Mr. Frederick's relationship like? What cause do they now share?

These two disliked each other so much that it was difficult for them to come to any agreement, even in defence of their own interests.

If one or more of the animals was opposed to the idea of the milk and apples going to the pigs, how do you think Snowball and Napoleon would react?

They would like it because they are pigs!!
