corporal

A cloth upon which the Eucharist is placed.

sanctuary lamp

A lighted candle to show that the Blessed Sacrament is present in the tabernacle.

deacon stole

A long cloth "scarf." According to the manner in which it worn it is the mark of the Office of the priest or deacon. A deacon wears it over his left shoulder, fastening it at his right side.

surplice

A loose vestment of white linen, having wide sleeves and in its optimal form reaching to the floor; worn by priests, choirs and others taking part in religious services.

benediction veil

Also called the humeral veil. This is a long narrow shawl-like vestment used at Benediction.

tabernacle

An ornamented receptacle in the church in which the consecrated Eucharist is reserved for Communion for the sick and dying as well as for adoration. In Israelite history, the tabernacle was the curtained tent containing the Ark of the Covenant and other sacred items. This portable sanctuary was taken throughout their wandering in the wilderness until the building of the Temple in Jerusalem.

communion cups

Chalice like vessels used at communion when the people receive from the cup. They are kept on the Credence Table and brought to the Altar at communion time.

chapel of reservation

Chapel area of a church, whose central focus is the tabernacle containing reserved hosts, the Body of Christ

roman missal

In 1970 the Church published-for the entire world-a new, revised __ which sets out the Order of the Mass.

vestments

Ritual garments worn by the clergy.

Sacrementary

The book from which the presider reads the prayers for the mass. It has all the rules and prayers for mass.

Altar candle

The candles placed near the altar and always lit during mass to signify that christ is the light

chalice

The cup used during the Mass that holds the wine before the Consecration and the Blood of Christ after the Consecration. It represents the cup used at the Last Supper and is a symbol of Jesus' sacrifice and eternal life.

credence table

The small table on which is kept the things which are used during Mass.

book of the gospels

This contains the good news of Jesus Christ, we treat it with special reverence.

a white linen liturgical vestment with sleeves

Cincture

belt, A long cord used for fastening albs at the waist. It holds the loose-fitting type of alb in place and is used to adjust it to proper length. It is usually white, although the liturgical color of the day may be used.

cruet

bottle that holds wine or oil or vinegar for the table

covering the coffin with this is a sign of christian dignity which calls to mind the baptismal garment of the deceased

the place where Baptisms are celebrated; originally a separate building and now typically a section of a church
