What are the three types of connective tissue?

What are the four tissue types?
1. Connective tissue - provides support and holds various body parts together 2. Epithelial tissue - protects organs, lines body cavities, covers surfaces of body 3. Nervous tissue - provided communication between all body structures 4. Muscles tissue - made up of very thin and very long thread like cells called muscle fibres
What is a specialised cell?
A cell that possesses specific features that well- suit it to its specific function
What are some advantages and disadvantages of specialised cells?
Advantages: - increases efficiency (specific function) - reduces duplication effort Disadvantages: - totally dependent on activities of other cells to perform tasks they cannot - if they are isolated from certain cells, they will not be able to function and will die.
What are some advantages and disadvantages of being multicellular?
Advantages: - live for longer - there are many cells; if one dies they have others to replace it - contains specialised cells - protection-less likely to be eaten - can live in a variety of habitats - can perform many metabolic processes due to complex structure Disadvantages: - cannot live independently of other cells - require more energy to function
What are some advantages and disadvantages of being unicellular?
Advantages: - small and simple - all functions required to survive are capable of that one cell - fast exchange of materials by diffusion - fast reproduction Disadvantages: - more susceptible to predation - don't live as long because if that cell dies, the whole organism dies - limited amount of metabolic activities can occur in the cell at one time due to small size

An organism made up of a single cell
What is a stem cell?
An unspecialised, mature cell, capable of being transformed into different kinds of unspecialised, differentiated cells
