Key steps of first aid

Maintaining the first aid kit

1. It is the responsibility of the First Aider to maintain the First Aid Kit. 2. Keep supplies in a sturdy, watertight container that is clearly labeled. 3. Know where the first aid kit is. 4. Replace what you use, so that the kit is always ready for the next emergency. 5. Check it at regularly for expired supplies and make sure it is complete.

1. No response to voice or touch 2. Chest discomfort, signaling possible heart attack 3. Signs of a stroke 4. Problems breathing 5. Severe injuries or burns 6. Severe bleeding 7. Seizures 8. Sudden paralysis 9. Reception of an electric shock 10. Exposure to poison

Phoning for help if you are alone

1. Shout for help. 2. If nobody answers and the person needs immediate care and you have a cellphone, phone 911 and put the phone on speaker mode. 3.The dispatcher will provide further instruction (on first aid, CPR, AEDs).

Phoning for help if you are with others

1. Stay with the ill or injured person and be prepared to give first aid or CPR if you know how. 2. Send someone else to phone 911 and get the first aid kit and AED if possible. 3. Have the person out the phone on speaker mode so that you can receive further instruction from the dispatcher.

1. When you come upon the ill or injured person and the person responds, introduce yourself as a first aid provider before you touch the person. 2. Ask if you may help.
