What's included in SQ3R?

(S) Survey: Before reading your text closely, start by examining the headings, subheadings, graphics, charts, and references (if included). (Q) Question: Think or write questions that you have. One way to generate questions is to turn headings and subheadings into questions. (R1) Read: Read each section at a time, making sure you are concentrating on what you have read. (R2) Recite: At the end of each section that you have read, say aloud what the section was about and answer the questions that you asked during the Question stage. You may also want to write your answers on note cards to review later. (R3) Review: Review what you have read. Some experts suggest reviewing within 24 hours of reading; others recommend reviewing what you have read in short sessions over a period of time.
