Type 2 Q- A toaster is £38 excluding VAT. VAT is paid at 20%. What is the price of the toaster including VAT?
20% increase= 1+0.2=1.2 38x1.2=£45.60
Type 3 Q- There are 480 pupils in a school. 55% of them are girls and 59 of the girls have blonde hair. What percentage of girls have blonde hair?
55%= 55➗100= 0.55 55% of 480= 0.55 x 480 = 264 girls 59/264 x 100 = 22.384% = 22.3
Type 1 Q- Find 60% and 40% of 140
60% of 140= 0.6 x 140= 84 40% of 140= 0.4 x 140= 56
Type 3- Express x as a percentage of y
Divide x by y, then multiply by 100. Eg: 209 as a percentage of 400= 209/400 x 100= 52.25%
Type 2- Find the new amount after a % increase or decrease
Find the multiplayer- the decimal that represents the percentage change. Eg: 5% increase is 1.50 (=1+0.05) 26% decrease is 0.74 (=1-0.26) Then you multiply the original value by the multiplayer
Type 1- Find x% of y
Turn the percentage into a decimal/fraction, then multiply. Eg: 15% of £46= 15/100 x £46= £6.90
