What is the order of stages in cellular respiration (with oxygen)? Where do these stages take place? What are the products of these stages? How many ATP's are produced in each stages?

1. Glycolysis, in cytoplasm: produces 2 ATP's, NADH, and pyruvate 2. Krebs cycle, in mitochondrial matrix: produces 2 ATP's, CO2, and energy carriers NADH and FADH2 3. Electron transport chain, in mitochondrial inner membrane: produces 32 ATP's and water

Photosynthesis is divided into 2 stages. List the stage, where it occurs in the organism and what the products of the stage are. What are pigments, in which stage and where do you find them?

1. Light dependent reaction: thylakoid membrane uses water and changes light energy from the sun into chemical energy stored in ATP and NADPH. Releases oxygen as a waste product. 2. Calvin cycle (light independent): *in storms of chloroplast product is glucose, combines carbon from CO2 in the air and uses the chemical energy in ATP and NADPH - the pigment is chlorophyll in the chloroplast (gather energy from the sun)

Organisms are classified based on how they obtain their energy needs. List the falsification and give two examples of each. How do the names for these organisms differ in a food chain?

Autotrophs: - known as producers - make their own food (photosynthesis) - plants, algae, and some bacteria Heterotrophs: - rely on others for food - known as consumers - animals, fungi, and any single called organisms

Define energy. What is the ultimate source of energy for all life on earth?

Energy: is defined as the ability to de work. The ultimate source of energy is the sun.

What name is given to the process of making ATP without oxygen? What are the two types of cellular respiration (without oxygen)? What are the products of each? Provide examples of use for each type.

Fermentation - Alcoholic: yeast and bacteria produces CO2 gas, 2 ATP, and ethyl during fermentation - lactic acid: used by muscle cells and produces 2 ATP and lactic acid

What would happen if carbon dioxide was removed from the plants environment?

Makes glucose so the plants wouldn't have food. Same would happen if green light was used and not water - photosynthesis cannot take place - temperature makes a difference (cold= slow down)

Do all organisms that make their own food use light? What name is given those organisms?

No, some organisms are not exposed to sunlight and must use chemical compounds around them. They are called chemosynthetic or the process is called chemosynthetic.

What are the equations used to represent photosynthesis and cellular respiration? How are they related? What is the formula for glucose?

Photosynthesis: 6CO2 + 6H2O + sunlight ——> C6H12O6 + 6O2 Respiration: C6H12O6 + 6O2 ——> 6H2O + 6CO2 + energy - same reaction but reversed Glucose: C6H12O6

cellular respiration can proceed with or without oxygen. What terms are used to describe the type of cellular respiration? What organisms use cellular respiration?

aerobic: only organisms with mitochondria do this form of cellular respiration (with oxygen) -eukaryotes- Anaerobic: can be done by all organisms with cells (without oxygen) -prokaryotes and eukaryotes-
