Photosynthesis/Respiration terms
Products
The chemical that comes out of a reaction.
Reactants
The chemicals that go into a reaction.
Respiration
The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between living cells and their environment; includes breathing and cellular respiration
Photosynthesis
The process by which plants, algae, and some bacteria use light, carbon dioxide, and water to make food
Glucose
Sugar that is created during photosynthesis. It is used by plants, animals, etc. Plants store it as starch.
Mitochondria
The cell organelle that is surrounded by two membranes and that is the site of cellular respiration.
Carbon Dioxide
A waste product of respiration, that is needed for photosynthesis.
Water
A product that is given off during respiration, it is needed for photosynthesis.
Oxygen
A waste product of photosynthesis, that is required for respiration.
ATP
Energy that cells store and use.
Chlorophyll
Green pigment found in chloroplasts.
Chloroplasts
Organelles that contain the pigment chlorophyll and are needed for photosynthesis.
Stomata
Pores in the epidermis of plants that let out oxygen, and can close if the plant is loosing too much oxygen
Stoma
Pores in the epidermis of plants, they let in carbon dioxide and light
