Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons
What is strong force?
strong force keeps the neutrons and protons together. Neutrons are like the stick pieces and protons are like always trying to escape the other protons so the neutrons hold them together.
What is electromagnetic force?
Particles with opposite charges attract each other PArticles with same charge repel each other
What is gravitational force?
Pulls objects towards one another.
What is atomic number
The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom. The atomic number is the same for all atoms of an element
What is an atom?
The smallest unit of an element that maintains the properties of that element.
What is a weak force?
a neutron can change into a proton and an electron and weak force plays a role in that.
What is an electron cloud?
a region around the nucleus of an atom where electrons are likely to be found.
What is a neutron?
a subatomic particle that has no charge and that is found in the nucleus of an atom
What is atomic mass?
the mass of an atom expressed in atomic mass units
What is the mass number?
the sum of the numbers of proteins and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom
What is an electron?
a subatomic particle that has a negative charge
What is a proton?
a subatomic particle that has a positive charge and that is found in the nucleus of an atom.
What is the atomic mass unit?
a unit of mass that describes the mass of an atom or molecule
What is the Greek word for atom?
atomos meaning "not able to be divided."
What is an isotope?
An atom that has the number of protons (or the same atomic number) as other atoms of the same element do but that has a different number of neutrons (and thus a different atomic mass)
What are the 4 forces on the atom?
Gravitational force, electromagnetic force, strong force, weak force
What is the nucleus?
In physical science, an atom's central region, which is made up of protons and neutrons
