Psychology is the study of the human brain and the scientific factors that follow it such as the behaviors one has.

Why is standardization important in psychological research?

Standardization is important because it assures the experimental procedures and measurements.

Explain bias in research. Describe subject and experimenter bias and research designs to control for subject and experimenter bias.

Bias in is the experiment whether the subject of the experiment knows, or does not know. In subject bias the subject does know that the experiment is happening and why they are doing it but in experimenter bias they do not know of the experiment.

Describe empiricism as a worldview and an approach to science.

Empirical is known as a belief that it is the only source of psychological knowledge.

How did empiricism contribute to the development of modern psychology?

Empiricism contributed to modern day psychology to the finding and use of the scientific method.

What is natural revelation? What is special revelation?

Natural revelation are the truths about God through nature. Special revelation refers to truths about God known through the supernatural.

What is phrenology and how are phrenology and modern neurobiology similar?

Phrenology was used as an indicator that the size and shape of a skull determined the behaviors and actions of ones self. Phrenology and neurobiology are similar because both study the specific parts of the brain that include the mental functions.

Describe qualitative and quantitative research.

Qualitative research is the "qualities" of psychological phenomena. Quantitive research seeks to discover "cause-and-effect" relationships.

The text named five main approaches to psychology. Identify and describe them.

The five main approaches to psychology are: - The behavioral school of thought is the way the relationship between the environmental influences and behavior. - The biological school of thought views the behaviors in terms of biological and electro-chemical processes. - The cognitive school of thought is the influence of problem solving or perception. - The psycho-dynamic school of thought emphasizes unconscious processes. - The humanistic school of thought innate goodness and potential and the influence of feelings and behaviors.

Describe the impact of the Darwin's theory of evolution on the study of Psychology.

The impact of Darwin's study is the transformation of how psychology is studied and viewed. It changed from the study of the soul to the study of the mind and the brain.

Explain independent and dependent variables.

The independent variable is the variable that the researcher manipulates. The dependent variable is the "effect" of the independent variable.

What is a worldview?

A worldview is the way one sees the world through their core beliefs and assumptions.

Describe a normal distribution.

A normal distribution is often showed geographically by a normal bell or curve.

How did a naturalistic worldview affect modern psychology?

A naturalistic worldview has affected modern psychology by basing all studies on the human mind. It is the basic roots of most approaches of psychology.

What do you believe about the nature of Mankind?

I believe that we are made in God's image and that we sin in life and are saved and repent our sins and spend our lives worshiping Him because He put us on earth on purpose.

What do you think causes abnormal thoughts, feelings, and behaviors?

I think God has a plan for us to think those thoughts so that we can come closer to God and Jesus.

Describe the placebo affect.

In the placebo affect two groups in drug trials take pills. It is an example of subject bias because one group takes the pill with an active ingredient and the other groups pill has no active ingredient.

What advice does the text offer about a Christian approach to Psychology?

It offers us advice on what we should study and know if we do into psychology for college in a christian worldview.

What were radical behaviorism's assumptions about the nature of Mankind?

It saw the nature of Mankind as machines that work with the stimuli.

Describe the faith/science dichotomy. Do you believe there is a dichotomy between science and a christian worldview? Explain your answer.

Science and faith do not go well together because most sciences and scientists believe that there is no God and that is a whole other science. I believe that the science gets in the way of a world view, but can possibly change someone else's view.

In what way is secular humanism inconsistent with a Christian worldview?

Secular humanism is inconsistent with a Christian worldview because of the disbelief of God and that Mankind is the self-existent culmination of evolutionary development.
