5.Objectives

A section at the end of the chapter that includes additional applied practice exercises, review questions, and suggestions for further reading. The review questions will help you confirm your understanding of the material.

2.Foreword

A section written by a expert on this matter(Not the Arthur)Reinforces what he Arthurs teaching.(saying why this is important). Foreword shows why this text or book is different from the other text or books.sometimes says why the instructor picked this book for your course.

3.Author Profile

A short biography of the author illustrating the author's credibility in the subject matter. This helps you understand the Author's Perspective. Also shows what the Arthur considers important.

Avoid distractions

Avoid distractions like your phone for example you can turn it off when you are about to study so it doesn't distract you.Avoid anything that distract you in general.

7.Applied Practice Elements

Exercises, activities, or drills designed to let students apply their knowledge gained from the reading These features provide you with a great way to confirm your understanding of the material. If you have trouble with them, you should go back and reread the section. They also have the additional benefit of improving your recall of the material.

Tips for reviewing

First of all answer the questions and then write summer of what you read/learned.Read the answers out loud so you can remember them And lastly think how think about what you red and how it relates to what you are learning in class.

10.Endnotes and Bibliographies

Formal citations of sources used to prepare the text. These will help you infer the author's biases and are also valuable if doing further research on the subject for a paper.

Get in the right place

Go into a quiet room where there is no noise or when there are no distractions.This will help you stay focused on your text.

Tips: 1.Look for the answers for the questions you wrote. 2.Play close attention to the first and last lines of a paragraph they might have something important 3.Look if there is a relationship between section titles, boldface words, and graphics. 4.Skim through unimportant section unrelated to they key question. Did you find any additional question when reading the text?Write them down in your notes.Since you read the text thoroughly you should be able to define the keywords in the text.If you weren't able to answer any two reread the text again.

4.Reviewing

Review what you learn in the text and what does it mean.Next you should write a summery about what you read in the text.(notes,questions and answers to the question.)"Think about how each idea relates to material the instructor is covering in class". If the text has review questions share notes with your fellow class mates to review together.

Tips for Capturing

Use the Cornell method to write down notes.Write questions on the right column,then then define the keywords you found in the text.Go back to the text with a highlighter to call out key ideas.DO NOT HIGHLIGHT THAT MUCH ONLY LESS THAN 10%.If you want to call some things out annotate. Then move on to the next section.

Take breaks to avoid reading Fatigue

You should take short breaks so you don't get bored of reading.Do something that can help you be productive.Because you will get bored and tired of standing in front of a computer screen you will also get tired of sitting down

Before reading check your attitude if your unhappy about the having to read the text your gonna have problems reading to text,You to get "Psyched" about reading the text.(you don't have to read it all in one single turn you can take short breaks" Reading the book to understand the context of the book,What parts are the most important and which parts you can skim through.Check the titles and if it has section check the sections title too. Take out your notebook before reading the text.Use the Cornell method to take notes.But change the Cornell method a bit Narrow the left column and widen the right column.(write down notes on the right and Questions of the left column.) Use critical thinking to question what the author is saying.For the right Column Turn each Title into a question like ("The End of the Industrial Revolution," you might write, "What caused the Industrial Revolution to end?").In the left Column write down bolded words,Key words and definitions.

By doing this it shows you the importance and the purpose of something.

Have a schedule

By this i mean have a time where you have nothing to do.Maby at night were you are done with everthing in they day.

Pace yourself

Don't try to read the whole text in one go.read it in chunks or paragraphs.

3.Capturing Keyideas

Now that you can answer the questions you wrote down efficiently and define keywords try to to kept these concepts in your mind. Reread the section with a highlighter to highlight key ideas and words.(Write them down in your notes)Make your book truly yours by writing/highlighting in them.(main priority is reading the text) When highlighting your textbook don't highlight everything only highlight the most important.Think before you highlight anything.Less is better when it comes to highlighting.When finished highlighting you should have less than 10% of the text highlighted. Use annotations.Use the one you prefer to use like * = equal important. Use this so you don't have to highlight everything. Pay attention to the Arthur is saying in the text for example the Arthur could say "according to" or "Jones argues" this means the piece does not belong to them. Some other signals maybe "Yet" or "however" this means they are changing into a different idea.Play CLOSE ATTENTION what signals the Arthur is giving.

Reading everything in a text is important but some parts may not back up the key idea of the text it might talk about something off topic and these are some of the parts you skim through parts unrelated to key idea or main idea.
