Telnet opens a plain text, unsecured, remote console connection. Telnet uses port 23. Secure Shell (SSH) provides the same capabilities as Telnet, but encrypts data. SSH uses TCP port 22.

Remote Desktop Details

The host must be running Xp or higher. Remote Desktop is only supported on Professional, Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate versions. Client computers require client software to make the connection. This software is included with XP and higher, but must be installed separately on earlier Windows versions (Windows 2000, for example). A default installation does not enable the Remote Desktop feature. Edit the System properties to enable Remote Desktop By default, Admins have the ability to log on remotely. The user account that is used for the Remote Desktop connection must have a password. If one is not set, the connection cannot be established. Firewalls must be configured to allow Remote Desktop connections. Open port 3389.
