Respirtory System
Name at least three things that can change your breathing rate?
- breathing faster -holding your breath - your emotions
What is meant by gas exchange?
Gas exchange is when you breath oxygen and your body removes carbon dioxide and is a part of breathing.
What happens to the diaphragm during inhalation?
While you Inhale the diaphragm muscles contract.
Where is the respiratory center for controlling breathing located?
base of the brain
Describe how a healthy lung looks.
A healthy lungs looks either a bright red or a red.
What happens to air in the nose?
Air in the nose becomes wet and warm.
What happens to the lungs during inhalation?
During Inhalation your lungs expand and get larger.
What is passed from the alveoli into the blood?
Oxygen is passed from the alveoli to the blood
What is meant by the term Respiration?
Respiration means how the cells of the body use oxygen to create energy and how they exhale carbon dioxide that is a waste product of this process.
What are the cilia and what do they do?
The Cilia are special hairs in the nose lungs and ect. They trap germs and foreign germs.
What do the capillaries around the air sacs do?
The capillaries cover the air sacs.
What happens to the diaphragm during exhalation?
The diaphragm relaxes.
What is the epiglottis and what does it do?
The epiglottis is a thin flap of tissue that covers your windpipe when you swallow. It prevents foods and drinks from entering the passageways that enter the lungs.
Why is your left lung smaller than your right lung?
The left lung is smaller than the right lung to allow space for the Heart.
What are four muscle groups involved in breathing?
The muscles included in breathing is Diaphragm, Intercostal muscles Abdominal muscles, Muscles in the neck and collarbone area
What happens to the particles trapped by the cilia?
The particles trapped in the Cecilia are sneezed, coughed or swallowed.
Why do we sneeze?
We sneeze to get the particles that was trapped in the cilia out of our body.
asthma
when breathing certain substances that you're sensitive to can trigger your airways to narrow. This makes it hard for air to flow in and out of your lungs.
Bronchitis
when the cilia (tiny hairs) does not trap the germs we breathe in, the germs can affect us and cause an infection in our bronchial tubes
pneumonia
when the germs from the air we breath goes any deeper from the bronchial tubes, these germs can go into the lungs
Bronchi branch into _________________ These tubes end in bunches of ____________________
1. thousands of smaller, thinner tubes called bronchioles 2. tiny round air sacs called alveoli.
List the four locations for the sensors that control breathing rate.
1.Brain 2.Lungs 3. Blood Vessels 4. Muscles
How does a healthy lung differ from a lung with cancer or emphysema?
A healthy lung is a bright red or a red and a lung with cancer or emphysema is a brownish or black color. With a healthy lung you can breathe normally and with a lung w/ cancer or emphysema, you can not breathe normally.
What happens to the lungs during exhalation?
During exhalation, muscles relax, volume of thorax decreases, pressure increases, air is forced out, and diaphragm relaxes.
What type of blood vessels surround the alveoli?
The blood vessels that surround it are capillaries
