Restorative Art chapter 3 muscle of the cranium, face, and neck.
Zygomaticus Minor
Muscle of the face
Temporalis Muscles
A broad muscle arising in the temporal cavity and inserting in the mandible
Digastric Muscle
A double-bellied muscle of the neck, which attaches to the mastoid process and the mandible
Orbicularis Oris/Puckering Muscle
A flat band of muscles in the upper and lower red lips and integumentary lips
Masseter Muscle
A muscle arising from the zygomatic arch and inserting in the mandible
Depressor Labii Inferior/Quadratus
A muscle of facial expression
Levator Labii Superioris Alaeque Nasi Muscles
A muscle of facial expression
Depressor Anguli Oris/Triangularis
A muscle of facial expression that a rises from the mandible to insert into the anguli oris
Levator Palpebrae Superioris Muscles
A muscle of facial expression that runs from the inside of the eye socket to the superior tarsal playe of the eyelid
Levator Labii Superioris Muscles
A muscle of fasical expression
Temporalis Muscle
A muscle of mastication and is the strongest chewing muscle. It closes the mandible. Assists in side-to-side movement of the mandible
Masseter Muscles
A muscle of mastification. It closes the mandible
Corrugator Muscle
A pyramid-shaped muscle of facial expression. This muscle lies beneath the frontalis and orbicularis oculi. Known as the frowning muscle
Sternocleidomastoid Muscle
A thick muscle that originates from the head of the sterum and clavical, and inserts at the mastoid process of the temporal bone
Occipitofrontalis/Epicranius Muscle
Broad muscle covers the top of the skull. It consists of two parts, the occipitalis, or back part, and the frontalis, or front part
Orbicularis Oculi Muscles
Closes the eyelids and compresses the lacrimal sac
Orbicularis Oris/Puckering Muscle
Closes the lips. Compress lips against teeth. Shapes lips during speech
Buccinator/Trumpeters Muscle
Compresses the cheek, and it pulls the anguli oris posteriorly. It produces the action of sucking
Depressor Anguli Oris/Triangularis
Depresses the angle of the mouth
Depressor Labii Inferioris/Quadratus
Depressess the lower lip inferiorly and slightly laterally
Procerus Muscle
Draw the skin of the forehead inferiorly causing transverse and vertical wrinkles in the forehead
Risorius/False Smile Muscle
Draws corners of mouth posteriorly
Corrugator Muscles
Draws the eyebrows inferiorly and medially as in frowning
Digastric Muscle
Draws the hyoid bone superiorly
Zygomaticus Major/Laughing Muscle
Draws the upper lip posteriorly, superiorly, and laterally as in smiling or laughing
Zygomaticus Minor
Draws the upper lip superiorly and laterally
Levator Labii Superioris
Elevates and extends the upper lip
Mentalis Muscle
Elevates and protrudes the lower lip. It also wrinkles the skin over the chin
Levator Anguli Oris
Elevates the angle of the mouth
Zygomaticus Major/Laughing Muscle
Extends from the cheekbone to the ankle of the mouth
Risorius/False Smile Muscle
Extends from the skin over the masseter muscles to the corners of the mouth
Levator Palpebrae Superioris Muscles
Raise the upper eyelid
Levator Labii Superioris Alaeque Nasi Muscle
Raise the upper lip and dilates the nostrils
Sternocleidomastoid Muscle
Rotates and depresses the head
Levator Anguli Oris
Small muscle at the angle of the mouth
Buccinator/Trumpeters Muscle
The principle muscle of the cheek. Originates in the skin over the molar teeth and inserts into the skin at the anguli oris/corners of the mouth. It makes up part of the angulus oris eminences
Platysma Muscle
Thin layer of muscle covering the anterior aspect of the neck
Procerus Muscles
This muscle cover the bridge of the nose
Occipitofrontalis/Epicranius Muscle
This muscle draws the scalp posteriorly and anteriorly, causing eyebrows to raise and wrinkles to form on forehead
Mentalis Muscle
This muscle is located on the tip of the chin
Orbicularis Oculi Muscles
This sphincter muscle surrounds the eye socket
Platysma Muscle
Wrinkles the skin of the neck and chest. Also depresses the mandible and anguli oris, ad in pouting.
