5P's: Plan Risk Factor Types

Airport Conditions - Runway closures or other changes at the airport to be aware of? Are the right services you will need available at your destination? Terrain and Airspace - Flying over high terrain on your route? Mission - Eager to complete the flight to get home to something important? Weather - Is weather deteriorating at your destination? All of these can affect your decision making when you're creating your flight plan/planning your flight.

5P's: Plane Risk Factor Types

Airworthiness - Whether the airplane is operationally, mechanically, and legally airworthy is a risk factor. Performance - The airplane's ability to meed required performance criteria based on the conditions during your flight is a risk to consider. Configuration - Whether your airplane is properly equipped for flight and whether elements such as power settings and airspeed are appropriate create risk.

5P's: Programming Risk Factor Types

Avionics Airworthiness - The currency of databases and any malfunctions encountered during flight are risk factors. Avionics Operation - Your proficiency in the operation of the airplane's avionics is a risk factor to consider. Avionics Configuration - Whether you configure the avionics appropriately for the type of mission and phase of flight is a risk factor.

5P's: Passenger Category Risk Factor Types

Experience - Passengers who do not have experience in small airplanes can increase your workload during flight if they are anxious or nervous. Flexibility - Pressure to depart or arrive at a destination at a specific time because of a passenger's lack of flexibility can increase risk. Fitness - Passengers who are ill, prone to motion sickness, or have serious medical problems are risk factors to consider.

Training - Your pilot training affects your ability to undertake a proposed flight or manage certain situations during a flight. Experience - The type and recency of your pilot experience are also factors in your ability to be an effective pilot in command. Fitness - Your general health, stress level, and fatigue affect your performance and decision making abilities.
