A graph that shows the relationship between a data set with two variables, graphed as ordered pairs on a coordinate plane

Cluster

A group of data points bunched up together

Ordered Pair

A pair of numbers that gives the coordinates of a point on a grid

Outlier

A piece of data that doesn't seem to fit with the rest of a data set.

Association (Correlation)

A relationship between the two variables of a bivariate data set

Line of best fit

A straight line that best represents the data on a scatter plot

Linear association

An association in which the data appear to lie close to a line

Negative Correlation

An association in which the y-value decreases as the x-value increases

Positive Correlation

An association in which the y-value increases as the x-value increases

Bivariate Data Set

An ordered list of ordered pairs of data points

Non-linear association

When data points do not lie close to a line

No association or No correlation

When there is no pattern in the observed data
