There are three kinds of patrols: New-Scout patrols are for 11-year-old Scouts who have recently joined the troop and are together for the first year in the troop.- Regular patrols are made up of Scouts who have completed their First Class requirements. They have been around Scouting long enough to be comfortable with the patrol and troop operation and are well-versed in camping, cooking, and Scouting's other basic skills.- A Venture patrol is an optional patrol within the troop made up of Scouts age 13 and older. These troop members have the maturity and experience to take part in more challenging high-adventure outings.

Eagle Rank and how it is earned

As an American and a Scout, I should set a good example of how to care for the land. I will take care of the outdoors for myself and others. I will prevent wildfire. I will build my fires only when and where they are permitted and appropriate. I will treat the land and others users with respect, and follow the principles of outdoor ethics. I will learn about and practice good conservation skills for soil, water, forests, wildlife and energy.

Explain the Outdoor Code

The design on the First Class Scout badge signifies a Scout's ability to point the right way in life just as a compass does in the wilderness. The three points of the fleur-de-lis, like the three raised fingers of the Scout sign, represent the three parts of the Scout Oath--duty to God and country, duty to others, and duty to self.

Explain the significance of the First Class Scout Badge

The attitude that Scouts around the world are supposed to show, based on adherence to the Scout Oath and Law.

Explain what Scout Spirit is

The eagle with a shield, an emblem of the United States, represents freedom and a Scout's readiness to defend that freedom. The two stars symbolize Scouting's ideals of truth and knowledge. The stars also represent guides in the night sky for finding the way. Stars also suggest a Scout's outdoor adventure. The scroll displays the Scout motto. Its ends are turned up like a smile, because Scout smiles as he does his daily Good Turn. The knot below the scroll is a reminder to do a Daily Good Turn.

First Class Badge

The rank above Second Class and below Star Scout. The badge is awarded when the Scout completes requirements in the areas of Scoutcraft, physical fitness, citizenship, personal growth and Scout Spirit. At this point, Scouts begin to start working on leadership.

First Class Rank and how it is earned

The four steps of advancement in Scouting are: 1. A Scout LEARNS.A Scout learns by doing. As he learns, he grows in ability to do his part as a member of the patrol and the troop. As he develops knowledge and skill, he is asked to teach others; and in this way he begins to develop leadership. 2. A Scout is TESTED.A Scout may be tested on rank requirements by his patrol leader, Scoutmaster, assistant Scoutmaster, a troop committee member, or a member of his troop. The Scoutmaster maintains a list of those qualified to give tests and to pass candidates. The Scout's merit badge counselor teaches and tests on the requirements for merit badges. 3. A Scout is REVIEWED.After a Scout has completed all requirements for a rank, he has a board of review. For Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle Palms, the review is conducted by members of the troop committee. The Eagle Scout board of review is conducted in accordance with local council procedures. 4. A Scout is RECOGNIZED.When the board of review has certified a boy's advancement, he deserves to receive recognition as soon as possible. This should be done at a ceremony at the next troop meeting. The certificate for his new rank may be presented later at a formal court of honor.Learn, test, review, and recognize

Four steps of Boy Scout Advancement

The second-highest rank attainable, above Star and below Eagle. Life is awarded when the Scout serves actively in the troop in a position of responsibility for six months, and performs six hours of community service.[6] A Scout must also earn five merit badges (at least three of which must be required for the rank of Eagle) for a total of 11, including the six previously earned. Finally, the Scout must pass a Scoutmaster conference, and board of review.

Outdoor Code

Patrols are the building blocks of a Boy Scout troop. A patrol is a small group of boys (about 8 ideally) who are similar in age, development, and interests. They elect their own leader and run themselves without adults interfering except in cases of health or safety. They control their own destiny in their scouting careers.Patrol members work together as a team and they all share the responsibility for the patrol's success. They gain confidence by serving in positions of patrol leadership. All patrol members enjoy the friendship, sense of belonging, and achievements of the patrol and of each of its members.

Patrol Method

The patrol spirit is the "glue" that holds the patrol together. Through the use of a patrol name, a patrol emblem, a patrol flag, and a patrol yell (among other things) they build an identity of who they are together rather than singularly. Their shared experiences while scouting together as a patrol also lend to the patrol spirit and increase their bonds.

Patrol Spirit

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The square knot is also known as the joining knot because it can join two ropes and because it is the first knot Scouts learn when they join the BSA. It has many uses: from securing bundles, packages, and the sails of ships to tying the ends of bandages. To tie a square knot, hold one rope end in each hand. Pass the right end over and under the rope in your left hand and pull it snug. Next, pass the rope now in your left hand over and under the one now in your right, and pull it snug.Remember, right over left, left over right.
