Why is it important for real estate agents to be able to recognize and/or characterize architectural styles?

The more knowledgeable an agent is about architectural styles, the better service he or she can provide the client in finding the right home since style descriptors are commonly used. Also, the different styles often have value expectations associated with them, e.g., one expects a Queen Anne to have a higher value than a Katrina cottage; so selling and purchasing prices would vary as would costs of repairing, restoring, and so on.

Why are neo-eclectic style houses sometimes referred to as "McMansions?"

They combine multiple styles and materials, are often oversized and perceived as pretentious, and often appear to be thrown together from cheap materials and in haste, suggesting a certain popular type of fast food.
