Explain the structure and function of each of the four main flower parts.

What is the difference between complete and incomplete flowers?

Complete flowers have sepals, petals, and stamens, and pistils Incomplete flowers do NOT have all of those parts.

Long-day plant

Plants that flower regardless of the length of day.

How are the staminate flowers different from pistillate flowers?

Staminate flowers are flowers which lack pistils and bear only stamens. Pistillate flowers are flowers which lack stamens and only bear pistils

What is the primary purpose of flowers to a plant?

The primary purpose of flowers to a plant is to produce seeds for reproduction.

a plant's response to seasonal changes in length of night and day

Pedicel

a small stalk bearing a single flower of an inflorescence

Corolla

collection of petals

Short-day plant

consists of long periods of darkness (about 14 hours) and shorter periods of light

Bract

the bright red structures that appear to be its petals but are actually special leaves

Inflorescence

the flowering part of a plant or arrangement of flowers on a stalk
