Powers that are shared by the state governments and the federal government

Concurrent power

The rules the government must follow before it may limit or take away the rights of a citizen

Due process

Powers that are clearly listed in the constitution and given solely to the federal government

Enumerated power

The right to be treated the same as everyone else under the law

Equal protection

A power that is suggested but not spelled out

Implied power

The power of the court to judge if an action is constitutional

A government that only has as much power as necessary to carry out its duties

Limited government

The process by which a person born in another country can become an American citizen

When the government is subject to the will of the people
