What movement does the Saddle Joint consist of?

Moving your thumb side to side, front and back.

What movements do the Pivot Joint consist of?

Rotation movement (nodding your head laterally from side to side as in saying NO!).

Plane/Gliding Joint

twisting or Slide movements side to side, back and forth between flat surface of carpal and tarsal bones.

Saddle Joint

Found only at the base of the thumb.

Fibrous Joint

Held together by fibrous connective tissue that contains collagen fibers. They are immoveable.

What are the 2 types of cartilagenous joints?

Synchondroses (bones are joined by hyaline cartilage , and Symphyses (bones are joined by fibrocartilage).

Example of a Plane/Gliding Joint in action:

Waving side to side with your hand.

Hinge Joint

Elbow and knee. Bones move along axis to flex or bend.

Synovial Joints

2 Bones separated by a space that contains synovial fluid (slippery lubricant). Associated with joint cavity and ligaments. Contain Hyaline cartilage @ ends of bones-aids in reducing friction in joints. Encapsulated w/an inner+outer memberane made of areolar tissue that secretes synovial fluid.

Ellipsoid/Condyloid Joint

Allows movement from side to side, back and forth of joint between radius and metacarpal bones.

Cartilagenous Joint

Articulating bones linked or cushioned by cartilage. Inmoveable.

Example of the cartilagenous joint: Synchondroses

Attachmenst of ribs #1-7 to the sternum by costal cartilage.

What are the 6 types of Synovial Joints?

Ball and socket joints, hinge joints, pivot joints, saddle joints, ellipsoid/condyloid joints, and plane/gliding joints.

What movements do the Ball And Socket Joints consist of?

Consist of Abduction, Adduction, circumduction, flexion, extension, and rotation movements of the shoulder and hip joints.

What movements do the Hinge Joints consist of?

Consist of flexion, and extension movements of elbow and knee.

What movements do the Ellipsoid/Condyloid Joint consist of?

Consist of flexion, extension, circumduction, abduction, and adduction. Movement of

Example of the cartilagenous joint: Symphyses

Joints joined by fibrocartilage in the pubic symphysis.

Ball and Socket Joint

Shoulder & Hip joint.

What are the 3 types of fibrous Joints?

Sutures (skull) , Gomphoses (attachment of roots of your teeth to maxilla+mandible), and Syndesmoses (joint formed by radius+ulna/ tibia+fibula).

Pivot joint

atlas+axis of cervical vertebrae in the neck. (nodding your head laterally from side to side as in saying no)
