Biohazards and should be treated as such.

For Rh- mothers, I draw a little cord blood to get the baby's blood type. I used to use Eldon cards to do this, until I attended Dr. Allemann's workshop. Then I began to draw at least l ml cord blood into a lavender top tube and send/take to the lab for typing, as well as doing an Eldon card in the home. I have only seen the Eldon card be wrong once, when the placenta was frozen and re-thawed before the cord blood was drawn for typing.

Now I only send a sample to the lab of the Eldon card says the baby's blood is negative, just to be sure! When you draw cord blood, make sure to observe sterile technique to avoid contaminating the sample!

She says when to give contraction inducing herbs and medications, but she forgot to mention:

Nursing the baby and nipple stimulation: both cause the mothers body to release natural oxytocin.

One or two tablespoons of raw cotyledon tissue under the tongue stops bleeding! Emergency use.

Swallowing a piece is fine to, for preventing too much bleeding.

Taking your leave. It is important to make sure the parents know what to expect for mom and baby and have all their questions answered before you leave. The last thing you should chart on the labor record is:
