Organs

- An ORGAN is a structure composed of at least two different tissue types that perform a specific function within the body. - Examples include the brain, stomach and liver. - Complex functions begin to emerge at this level TOGETHER THEY FORM ORGAN SYSTEMS

Cellular Level

- The cellular level is made up of the smallest unit of living matter, the cell. - Individual cells may have some common functions but vary widely in size and shape. - Each type of cells carries out a set of unique tasks within the human body. e.g. nerve cell. TOGETHER THEY FORM TISSUES

Chemical Level

- Tiny Building blocks of matter: Atoms, eg - Hydrogen combine to form molecules - Molecules: Two or more atoms combined. eg: Water, sugar, protein - In turn, molecules combine to form organelles, the internal organs of a cell. TOGETHER THEY FORM CELLS

Tissues

- Tissues are groups of similar cells that have a common function - A tissue must contain two different types of cells - The four basic tissue types in humans include; Epithelium, Connective, Muscle, and Nervous Tissue. TOGETHER THEY FORM ORGANS

The Cardiovascular System

Blood vessels transports blood carrying oxygen, Co2, Nitrogen, Nutrients and wastes

The Digestive system

Breaks food down into absorbable units that enter the blood to be distributed to cells, tissues, organs, glands. Wastes eliminated in feces.

The Urinary System

Eliminates Nitrogenous wastes from the body. Regulates water, electrolyte, acid-base balance of the blood.

The Nervous System

Fast Acting Control System. Electrical impulses sent to respond to internal and external changes.

The Respiratory System

Keeps blood constantly supplied with O2 and removes Co2: Gaseous Exchange

The Muscular system

Movement, Heat, Posture, Expression.

Organ system

One or more organs work in unison to accomplish a common purpose - For instance, the heart and blood vessels work together and circulate blood throughout the body to provide oxygen and nutrients to cells. TOGETHER THEY FORM AN ORGANISM

The Lymphatic System

Picks up fluid leaked from blood vessels and returns it to blood. Immune function. Houses white blood cells.

The Skeletal System

Protects and supports body organs. Provides a framework. Muscles attach to cause movement

The Reproductive System

Reproduction of offspring. Testes produce sperm and male sex hormones. Ovaries produces eggs and female sex hormones

Organism

The organism level is the highest level of organisation It is the sum total of all structural levels working together In short, it is the human being (or organism) as a whole
