In 2008, TC Energy announced plans to build a pipeline that would carry 830,000 barrels of crude oil daily from Alberta to refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast. The project became an issue for climate activists and Indigenous people in Canada and the U.S.

Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission

In Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission (FEC), the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2010 that political spending is a form of free speech that's protected under the First Amendment.
