Types of shock - EMS
What is cardiogenic shock?
The heart fails to pump an adequate volume of blood (hypotension).
What are the signs of shock?
Restlessness or combativeness, changes in mental status, pale, cool, moist skin, respiratory and cardiac arrest.
What is obstructive shock?
The adequate flow of blood is disrupted due to obstructions in the heart, lungs, or greater vessels.
What is distributive shock?
When blood vessels dilate excessively, causing a drop in blood pressure.
What is compensated shock?
When the body utilizes specific bodily mechanism to compensate for the lack of adequate perfusion.
What is hypovolemic shock?
All types of shock caused by fluid loss
What are the 4 types of shock?
Cardiogenic shock, distributive shock, hypovolemic shock, obstructive shock
What is septic shock?
Form of distributive shock, caused by widespread infection of the blood
What is psychogenic shock?
Form of distributive shock, causes fainting from the sudden dilation of blood vessels
What is anaphylactic shock?
Form of distributive shock, when the body experiences a severe allergic reaction.
What is neurogenic shock?

What is hemorrhagic shock?
Form of hypovolemic shock, occurs when the body loses too much blood.
What are the 6 types of shock?
Hemorrhagic shock, cardiogenic shock, neurogenic shock, anaphylactic shock, psychogenic shock, septic shock
What is cardiogenic shock?
Is both a category and type of shock, happens when the heart is unable to pump enough blood at a consistent pressure
