How did the Y2K (year 2000) problem affect the sales of ERP systems?

Before the Y2K many software applications were built for mainframe computers and only used information that assumed the first two numbers of the year would be 19' (for example 1996) this would obviously be an issue when 2000 hit and the first two numbers were no longer 19. Linux is an example of an open source software as well as Android. Basically I think of open-source like Wikipedia software. It is "open" and editable for anyone to use. Closed-source software is one that only edited by tech employees of said company. It also is not free (unlike open-source, which is free). This is because they want only the best and the brightest working on their products and this costs money. Apple is an example of closed-source software.

What are the functions of the operating system?

The operating system is what controls the hardware, creates the interface, and is the basic unit needed to create applications.

How would you categorize the software that runs on mobile devices? Break down these apps into at least three basic categories and give an example of each.
