Triad
3 colors are used in this color scheme. Ideally, they should be 3 colors apart. The most basic are: Red-Yellow-Blue Orange-Green-Purple They are the richest of all the color harmonies. They provide a balanced atmosphere.
Split-Complementary
3 colors are used in this color scheme. Start with one color and instead of using its complement, use the two colors on either side of its complement. EG: Start with Yellow. Instead of using purple, use Red-Purple and Blue-purple. Those are the colors on either side of Purple. This will work with all of the colors as you go around the color wheel. This harmony provides for warm and cool colors and contains nice variety.
Double Complements
4 colors are used in this color scheme. Start with one color and instead of using its complement, use the two colors on either side of its complement. EG: Start with Yellow. Instead of using purple, use Red-Purple and Blue-purple. Those are the colors on either side of Purple. This will work with all of the colors as you go around the color wheel. This harmony provides for warm and cool colors and contains nice variety.
Tetrad
4 colors are used in this color scheme. Use 2 colors adjacent to each other on the color wheel and their complements. EG: Yellow and Yellow-Orange - their complements are: Purple and Blue-Purple - this is a double complements color scheme. This harmony provides for warm and cool colors and also contains nice variety
