NIC

A Network Interface Card (NIC) is a computer hardware component that allows a computer to connect to a network.

CAN

A campus area network (CAN) is a network of multiple interconnected local area networks (LAN) in a limited geographical area.

Server

A computer in a network that provides access to other computers in the network to programs, web pages, data, or other files and services, such as printer access or communications access.

Workstation

A computer that runs a desktop operating system and connects to a network.

LAN

A local area network (LAN) is a computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area such as a residence, school, laboratory, or office building.

MAN

A metropolitan area network (MAN) is a network that interconnects users with computer resources in a geographic area or region larger than that covered by even a large local area network (LAN) but smaller than the area covered by a wide area network (WAN).

Bluetooth

Wireless PAN technology that transmits signals over short distances between cell phones, computers, and other devices

WPAN

Wireless Personal Area Network - Connects wireless devices in close proximity using infrared and bluetooth technologies, not through a Wireless Access Point.

Network

a set of computers which are connected to each other and operate as part of the same system, able to exchange information and messages

WAN

A wide area network (WAN) is a computer network that spans a relatively large geographical area and consists of two or more interconnected local area networks (LANs).

WLAN

A wireless local area network (WLAN) is a wireless distribution method for two or more devices that use high-frequency radio waves and often include an access point to the Internet.

Scatternet

A network of two or more piconets.

PAN

A personal area network (PAN) is a computer network used for data transmission among devices such as computers, telephones and personal digital assistants.

Piconet

A piconet is a network of devices connected using Bluetooth technology. The network ranges from two to eight connected devices.
