Plantation (LDC's)

A large farm in tropical and subtropical climates that specializes in the production of one or two crops for sale, usually to a more developed country.

Pastoral Nomadism (LDC's)

based on the herding of domesticated animals in dry climates, where planting crops is impossible

Mixed Crop & Livestock (MDC's)

both animal and crops are farmed in the same area, most crops fed to animals than directly consumed by humans

Intensive subsistence wet rice NOT dominant (LDC's)

climate discourages farmers from growing wet rice in portions of Asia

Mediterranean agriculture (MDC's)

exists primarily on lands that border Mediterranean, share similar physical environment: borders a sea, sea winds, hilly lands, mtns, narrow strips of flat land along coast

major crops in most farms is grain, grown primarily for human consumption than livestock

Commercial Gardening & Fruit Farming (MDC's)

predominant type of agriculture in the U.S. Southeast; grows many fruits and vegetables that consumers demand in MDC's such as apples, asparagus, cherries, lettuce, mushrooms, and tomatoes

ranching: commercials grazing of livestock over extensive area, increasing in developing countries

Dairy Farming (MDC'S)

specializes in production of milk and other dairy products, ring surrounding city from which milk can be supplied without spoiling is milk shed

intensive subsistence agriculture wet rice dominant (LDC's)

wet rice on dry land in nursery and moved as seedlings- dominant in SE China, E India, and much of SE Asia
