Most caves have no plants in them. Identify the limiting factors of this environment that would make it difficult for plants to grow there.

In caves there is limited amounts of sunlight. For Photosynthesis to occur plants require sunlight and without it, it will simply not be able to proceed. This is why in caves you will not find many green plants.

True or False. The speed of most chemical reactions increases as the temperature increases.

True, for photosynthesis, but only up to a certain point. The rate of photosynthesis increases up until 30 Degrees Celsius.

True or false. Leaves are the most exposed part a plant so that is why photosynthesis takes place there.

True. To maximise this exposure most plants have falt leaves that don't overlap.

Why is Photosynthesis vital for humans and plants?

*Humans would need to find somewhere else to get glucose from their foods, without glucose humans would have no energy. *Plants would have no food/ nutrients. *Oxygen would be limited on Earth. *Global warming because nothing to get rid of Carbon Dioxide.

How does Photosynthesis work?

1. WATER is carried through roots into leaves. 2. CARBON DIOXIDE is absorbed through tiny openings in the leaves called stomata. This opening is called a Stoma. Stomata is where oxygen exists after photosynthesis and carbon dioxide enters for photosynthesis. *Once water and Carbon dioxide inside the plant they enter the Chloroplasts in the plant cells. *Chloroplasts contain Chlorophyll which is needed for Photosynthesis. *When sunlight/ energy enters plant Photosynthesis takes place.

State the temperature above which Photosynthesis stops and explain why Photosynthesis stops above this temperature.

30 Degrees Celsius. Because the enzymes that help photosynthesis along are destroyed at temperatures greater than 30 Degrees Celsius. Above 30 Degrees Celsius the enzymes can no longer function.

What is the Balanced Equation for Photosynthesis?

6CO2 + 6H2O ~> C6H12O6 + 6O2

What is Photosynthesis?

An Endothermic Reaction that takes place in green plants; uses energy from sunlight to combine water and carbon dioxide and produce glucose and oxygen.

What is the limiting factor that stops photosynthesis from proceeding at night?

At night time there is no sunlight, therefore Photosynthesis cannot occur.

True or False. Animal cells have Chloroplasts.

False. Animal cells don't have chloroplasts, however, both animal and plant cells have mitochondria's.

Plants don't grow well in droughts. They may even die. Explain why this happens.

For photosynthesis to occur there needs to be carbon dioxide and water, along with Chlorophyll and sunlight. If there is no water Photosynthesis cannot proceed and therefore the plant is unable to produce its own nutrients and its ability to Respire is limited. Also, during droughts, most plants will close their stomata on their leaves to avoid losing too much water, and this, therefore, stops any Carbon dioxide to flow into the plant for Photosynthesis to occur.

Where does Photosynthesis take place?

In the Chloroplasts of plant cells.

What is a Chloroplast?

Organelle in a plant that contains Chlorophyll; where Photosynthesis takes place.

What are the similarities between Photosynthesis and Respiration?

Photosynthesis 1. Makes Glucose 2. Uses Carbon Dioxide 3. Makes Oxygen Gas 4. Uses Water 5. Endothermic 6. Requires Chlorophyll 7. Occurs only in Chloroplasts 8. Shuts down at night. Respiration 1. Uses Glucose 2. Makes Carbon Dioxide 3. Uses Oxygen gas 4. Makes Water 5. Exothermic 6. Doesn't need Chlorophyll 7. Occurs in Mitochondria 8. Happens continuously day and night.

True or false. As long as a plant has enough sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water, it can manufacture all food it needs.

True.

True or False? Respiration can be considered the reverse of Photosynthesis.

True. During respiration, glucose and oxygen are converted back into Carbon dioxide and water. During Photosynthesis Carbon dioxide and water are converted into Glucose and Oxygen.
