Delete a filter
Drag the filter's name to the trashcan in the Layers Panel
Smart Object
A way to put Photoshop layers into a wrapper, which allows you to apply an editable filter to all the layers at once and protect the original photo. •Shift click all layers. •Select Filter Menu, Convert to Smart Filter •Applied filter(s) affect the wrapper rather than what's inside. • Double click the wrapper to access the layers (Adobe, 2018)
Black & White Adjustment Layer
An adjustment layer used to change a color photo to B&W: •Adjust the contrast by moving the color sliders, and/or apply a sepia color tint. •Click the colored square next to the word, tint to change the tint color. •Select color and brightness from the color picker that appears
Straighten
Click and drag with this option in the crop dialog box (option bar) to align the image with its horizon line
Deselect a selection
Command D or Control D or Select Menu, Deselect
Spot Healing Brush Tool
Corrects imperfections, causing them to disappear. The repaired pixels blend seamlessly into the rest of the image. •Create a new layer •Select the tool. •Turn on Content Aware & Sample all layers to make corrections through all layers. •Adjust brush size and click and drag (Adobe, 2018).
Turn on Adjustment Layers
Either select: Half circle at the bottom of the Layers Panel, or Window Menu, Adjustments
Smart Sharpen Filter
Lightens light pixels Darkens dark pixels Best to keep the radius slide set to a low amount
Photoshop (PSD) file format
Native file format Preserves your layers (make sure Layers is checked when saving)
Patch Tool
Repairs a selected area with pixels from another area, •Create a new layer •Select the tool. •Turn on Content Aware & Sample all layers to make corrections through all layers. •Click and drag to draw a selection around item to be removed. •Click inside the selected area and drag to the area you want to use for the patch. •Adjust the color slider to right to preserve texture and blending or decrease to left (Adobe, 2018).
Crop Tool
This tool can trim edges, change the shape and size of a photo, and straighten a photo
Delete cropped pixels
Uncheck this option in the crop dialog box (option bar) to apply a non-destructive crop and retain pixels outside the crop boundaries.
Brush Tool
Use the left bracket or right bracket as you work to adjust the size of this tool
Original Ratio
Use this option in the crop option bar to preserve the ratio (size) of the image when cropping.
Layer Mask
White reveals and black conceals parts of the image
